The aim of this project is to give learners the opportunity to link a coding activity with the Health and Well-being and Humanities areas of learning.
The learners will code a step counter
The learners will market the device (Business – Humanities)
The learners will discuss the advantages of wearable technology (Health and Well-being)
The learners will complete the project through group work. This will give the learners an appropriate opportunity to recognise different roles in technological companies (that code devices).
The learners will recognise that technological companies need designers and project managers, as well as a coding expert.
If the learners have not used micro:bit much previously, tasks 1 and 2 below will introduce basic skills and an opportunity for them to understand variables and the IF/ELSE function. These tasks will prepare them for the Micro-Fit project.
The learners will also:
Have the opportunity to programme in a Teams assignment (individual work)
Collaborate within a private channel in Teams to create a marketing campaign (group work)
Use various apps and embed content in their final presentation
Present their campaign in front of the class in order to develop oracy skills
Create a new assignment in Microsoft Teams.
Add the PowerPoint to the assignment as ‘Students can’t edit’, as this is the teacher's presentation.
🔗 PPT Presentation - Introducing the Micro:Bit
➕ Add a ‘Make Code –micro:bit’ resource to the assignment.
✍ Give the MakeCode File a name
👀 The assignment should look like this.
Create a new assignment in Microsoft Teams.
Add the PowerPoint to the assignment as ‘Students can edit’, as they will be required to describe the code and create a flow diagram.
🔗 PPT Presentation: Harry Potter's Sorting Hat
Add a ‘Make Code – micro:bit’ resource to the assignment as well (as in the instructions above).
