The following projects were part of a 'Dragons' Den' style entrepreneurial ROWND task in our Year 6 class. Pupils worked collaboratively to design their own health and well-being products to present to the Dragons (Governors), who voted on the winning product. The following are two examples of the micro:bit health and well-being products coded by the pupils.
In this project, pupils designed a step counter to monitor the amount of steps taken during 'Daily Mile' sessions. Pupils collaborated to create algorithms on paper, prior to creating their code using Make Code Microbit . As part of their project, pupils designed their own holders for the micro:bit. Pupils also tracked their steps over a week, recorded their daily totals on a spreadsheet and then represented their data using bar graphs.
The project includes differentiated coding activities, together with extension activities which require pupils to modify the code to include conditional. It also includes a debugging activity.
In this project, pupils created a 'Breathing Buddy' to help pupils regulate their breathing to relax and/or calm down. Firstly, pupils created an algorithm on paper, before creating the micro:bit code using Make Code Microbit . Pupils timed themselves inhaling and exhaling and transferred these times into their code.
The project includes differentiated coding activities, together with extension activities which require pupils to modify the code to include instructions and loops to repeat breathing patterns.
Pupils created their information cards, giving instructions on how to use their products, prior to presenting to the 'Dragons'.
