Enquiry Question: What do you think life was like for children in Wales during World War II?
We have been looking at what life was like for children during World War II. As part of this we went to Brecon War museum. We learnt lots about what war was like and how life would have been for families in Wales.
Enquiry Question: Why live in Mid Rhondda?
Mr Jenkins - Local historian
We had a very exciting email from a local community member and historian, Mr Jenkins. The children were asked to attend a Teams call if they were willing to help him with a task. Below is the video we received asking us to help him with information needed as he was asked to find out about Mid Rhondda from the local council. On the call there were five schools, all who were going to help him with his task.
To start our work with Mr Jenkins we decided to work as a class to see if we could find out all the physical features of Mid Rhondda that might contribute to why people might want to live in Mid Rhondda. We worked on Microsoft Whiteboard to collaborate our work and investigated using Google Maps.
We decided that we needed to find out what was classed as 'Mid Rhondda'. We used Google Maps to explore the area. We then decided to plot all the physical features of mid Rhondda that we thought might be why people would live in mid Rhondda. We found lots of interesting features that we did not know about such as the statue of Mary where people visit on pilgrimmage and that there is a lake in Glyncornel.
Local residents Interviews
We have been busy interviewing local residents about why they live in Mid Rhondda. There were lots of reasons but one of the most said was how beautiful mid Rhondda is with its hills, lakes and wonderful walks.
We decided that we wanted to ask the opinion of lots of people about why you would live in mid Rhondda so we created our own google form. We came up with interesting questions to ask before we made the form and then linked this to a QR code. Lots of people gave their opinions. We are going to analyse the information and create some posters showing why people live here.

As part of our work we asked Mr Protheroe from RCT council to help us create a minecraft world. We decided that our world would have a portal where we could go from what Clydach looks like today with our wonderful lakes to the past and the colliery. We started by beginning to create a portal. We cannot wait to create our two worlds.
