Beth fydda i’n ei ddysgu?

Byddi di’n parhau i ddatblygu dy sgiliau dadansoddi llenyddiaeth wrth astudio nofelau, barddoniaeth a dramâu ym mlwyddyn 12 a 13.  Ym mlwyddyn 13, cei di’r cyfle i ddewis testun sydd o ddiddordeb i ti ar gyfer y gwaith cwrs. Yn ystod y cwrs, yn ogystal â chysylltu testunau i’w cyd-destunau cymdeithasol ac hanesyddol, byddi di’n dysgu sut i ddarllen yn feirniadadol.

Sut fydda i’n dysgu?

Byddi di’n astudio nifer o destunau ar yr un pryd. Bydd y gwersi’n cynnwys dadansoddi testunau, trafodaethau grŵp ac ymarfer arholiad. Bydd disgwyl i ti ddarllen y testunau gosod yn dy amser dy hunan.  

Oes angen offer arnaf fi?

Ni fydd angen offer arbennig, heblaw am yr adnoddau a ddarperir gan yr adran. Mae croeso i ti brynu dy gopïau dy hunan o’r testunau gosod er mwyn ysgrifennu drostynt, ac unrhyw ganllawiau astudio perthnasol.  

Sut fydda i’n cael fy asesu?

Bl 12: Arholiad rhyddiaith a drama: 20%

Bl 12: Arholiad barddoniaeth wedi 1900: 20%                  

Bl 13: Arholiad barddoniaeth cyn 1900 a barddoniaeth nas welwyd: 20%

Bl 13: Arholiad Shakespeare: 20%

Bl 13: Gwaith cwrs astudiaeth rhyddiaith: 20%

Beth yw’r cam nesaf ar ôl y cwrs hwn?

Bydd modd i ti barhau i astudio llenyddiaeth Saesneg yn y brifysgol.  Bydd modd cyfuno Saesneg gyda bron unrhyw bwnc arall yn y brifysgol.

Unrhyw beth sy’n gofyn am gyfathrebwyr hyderus: byd busnes, y cyfryngau, twristiaeth, addysg, cyfieithu, ond hefyd mae angen pobl gyda sgiliau ieithyddol da ym myd peirianneg, meddygaeth, masnach, ac unrhyw sefydliadau neu gwmnïau rhyngwladol.

What will I learn?

You will continue to develop your ability to analyse novels, poetry and drama texts during year 12 and 13. In year 13 you will have the opportunity to select a text of personal interest for your coursework study. Throughout the course, in addition to relating texts to their social and historical contexts, you will learn how to apply critical readings and others’ interpretations to your understanding. 

How will I learn?

You will study several texts simultaneously. Lessons will include close analysis of texts, group discussion and exam practice. You will be expected to read the set texts in your own time.  

Do I need any equipment?

You will not require any special equipment, apart from departmental resources.  You are, however, welcome to purchase your own copies of the set texts so that you can write notes all over them, and buy any relevant study guides.

How will I be assessed?

Year 12: Prose and drama examination 20%

Year 12: Poetry post-1900 examination: 20%                   

Year 13: Poetry pre-1900 and unseen poetry examination: 20%

Year 13: Shakespeare examination: 20%

Year 13: Prose study coursework: 20%

 What is the next step after this course?

You will be able to study English literature at university. You will also be able to combine English literature with most other subjects.

Ideas for jobs ...

Anything that requires confident communicators: the business world, tourism, the media, education, translation. People with good communication skills are also needed in engineering, medicine, commerce and any international establishments or companies.
