Mathemateg Bellach

Further MAthematics

Cymhwyster: AS (Blwyddyn 12) a Lefel A (Blwyddyn 13)

Bwrdd Arholi: CBAC

Beth fydda i’n ei ddysgu?

Mae Mathemateg Bellach yn gymhwyster UG/Uwch ychwanegol a gymerir ar y cyd â'r cwrs Mathemateg UG/Uwch. Fe'i cynlluniwyd i ymestyn a herio mathemategwyr galluog a'u paratoi ar gyfer cyrsiau prifysgol mewn mathemateg a phynciau gwyddonol cysylltiedig.

Byddi di'n adeiladu ar lawer o'r pynciau y byddi di wedi dod ar eu traws ar dy gwrs TGAU ac wrth astudio Lefel A neu Fathemateg AS. Byddi di’n dysgu am rifau cymhlyg, matricsau, algebra a ffwythiannau pellach yn ogystal â chymwysiadau eang mewn ystadegaeth a mecaneg.

Sut fydda i’n dysgu?

Bydd dulliau gwahanol a pherthnasol, gan gynnwys defnyddio technoleg, yn cael eu defnyddio wrth i ti ddysgu’r gwaith a fydd yn hybu dy hyder, dy fwynhad a’th ddyfalbarhad.

Oes angen offer arnaf fi?

Bydd angen cyfrifiannell sy’n cynnwys ffwythiant iterus, y gallu i gyfrifiannu crynodeb o ystadegau a bod â mynediad at debygolrwydd o ddosraniadau ystadegol safonol.

Sut fydda i’n cael fy asesu?

Beth yw’r cam nesaf ar ôl y cwrs hwn?

Lefel A Mathemateg yw un o'r pynciau mwyaf hyblyg a defnyddiol o’r holl bynciau Lefel A. Mae'n cael ei ddisgrifio fel pwnc "faciliting" gan Grŵp Russell o brifysgolion blaenllaw, sy'n golygu ei fod yn arbennig wrth agor drysau i amrywiaeth eang o gyrsiau prifysgol, nid yn unig mathemateg.  Dylai unrhyw fyfyriwr sy'n gwneud cais i astudio gradd mewn pwnc STEM hefyd ystyried cymryd Mathemateg Bellach i lefel UG o leiaf ochr yn ochr â Mathemateg Safon Uwch.

Syniadau am swyddi ...

Mae'r rhai sy'n gymwys mewn mathemateg yn y sefyllfa ffodus o gael amrywiaeth eang o ddewisiadau gyrfa. Mae'r gallu i ddefnyddio meddwl rhesymegol, llunio problemau a thynnu casgliadau’n cael eu gwella i gyd gan gwrs gradd mathemateg. Mae rhai dewisiadau gyrfa yn cynnwys Economeg, Pensaernïaeth, Meddygaeth, Ystadegaeth, Peirianneg, Cyfrifeg, Dysgu, Seicoleg, Astudiaethau Amgylcheddol, Cyfrifiadureg, Ffiseg, Biocemeg, Seryddiaeth, Bioleg, Cemeg, Daeareg, Daearyddiaeth, Personél a Gwyddoniaeth Fforensig.

Further maths

Qualification: AS (Year 12) and A Level (Year 13)

Examination Board: WJEC

What will I learn?

Further Mathematics is an additional AS/A level qualification taken in conjunction with the AS/A level Mathematics course. It is designed to stretch and challenge able mathematicians and prepare them for university courses in maths and related quantitative and scientific subjects.

A Level Further Mathematics builds on many of the topics you will have encountered at GCSE and will encounter when studying A Level Mathematics. You will learn about complex numbers, matrices and further algebra, functions and calculus along with some advanced areas of statistics and mechanics.

How will I learn?

Various and relevant methods of calculation, including using technology, will be used as you learn the work, and this will raise your confidence, your enjoyment and commitment.

Do I need any equipment?

You will require a calculator that includes an iterative function and has the ability to compute summary statistics and access probabilities from standard statistical distributions.

How will I be assessed?

Year 12 AS Unit 1: Further Pure Mathematics A Written examination 1 hour 30 minutes

Year 12 AS Unit 2: Further Statistics A Written examination 1 hour 30 minutes

Year 12 AS Unit 3: Further Mechanics A Written examination 1 hour 30 minutes

Year 13 A2 Unit 4: Further Pure Mathematics B Written examination 2 hours 30 minutes

Year 13 A2 Unit 5: Further Statistics B Written examination 1 hour 45 minutes

OR

Year 13 A2 Unit 3: Further Mechanics B Written examination 1 hour 45 minutes

What is the next step after this course?

Maths is one of the most flexible and useful of A Level subjects. It is described as a "facilitating" subject by the Russell Group of Leading Universities, meaning that it is particularly useful in keeping a wide range of university courses open to you, not only mathematics. Any student applying to study a degree in a STEM subject should also consider taking Further Mathematics to at least AS level alongside A level Mathematics.

Ideas for jobs ...

Those who qualify in mathematics are in the fortunate position of having a wide range of career choices. The ability to use logical thought, formulate problems and make deductions are all enhanced by a mathematics degree course. Such choices include Economics, Architecture, Medicine, Statistics, Engineering, Accountancy, Teaching, Psychology, Environmental Studies, Computing, Physics, Biochemistry, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Personnel and Forensic Science.
