Beth fydda i’n ei ddysgu?

Mae llawer o yrfaoedd neu gyrsiau prifysgol yn galw am gymhwyster Lefel A Mathemateg neu'n elwa o un. Drwy ddilyn cwrs Lefel A Mathemateg byddi di’n meddwl mewn termau haniaethol ac yn cymhwyso hyn mewn sawl maes astudio a menter. Mae astudio Mathemateg yn ddewis da oherwydd byddi di'n defnyddio sgiliau meddwl uwch y gellir eu trosglwyddo i nifer o feysydd a sefyllfaoedd eraill. Byddi di'n adeiladu ar lawer o'r pynciau y byddi di wedi dod ar eu traws ar dy gwrs TGAU. Er enghraifft, byddi di’n symud o ddatrys hafaliadau llinol a chwadratig i weithio gydag hafaliadau ciwbig, esbonyddol a thrigonometrig. Yn ogystal â phynciau cyfarwydd megis tebygolrwydd a graffiau, bydd pynciau newydd fel differu ac integreiddio yn cael eu cyflwyno yn ogystal â chymwysiadau eang mewn ystadegaeth a mecaneg.

Sut fydda i’n dysgu?

Bydd dulliau gwahanol a pherthnasol, gan gynnwys defnyddio technoleg, yn cael eu defnyddio wrth i ti ddysgu’r gwaith a fydd yn hybu dy hyder, dy fwynhad a’th dyfalbarhad.

Oes angen offer arnaf fi?

Bydd angen cyfrifiannell sy’n cynnwys ffwythiant iterus, y gallu i gyfrifiannu crynodeb o ystadegau a bod â mynediad at debygolrwydd o ddosraniadau ystadegol safonol.

Sut fydda i’n cael fy asesu?                                            

Blwyddyn 12 UG Uned 1: Mathemateg Bur A                    Arholiad ysgrifenedig 25%

Blwyddyn 12 UG Uned 2: Mathemateg Gymhwysol A       Arholiad ysgrifenedig 15%

Blwyddyn 13 U2 Uned 3: Mathemateg Bur B                    Arholiad ysgrifenedig 35%

Blwyddyn 13 UG Uned 4: Mathemateg Gymhwysol B       Arholiad ysgrifenedig 25%

Beth yw’r cam nesaf ar ôl y cwrs hwn?

Lefel A Mathemateg yw un o'r pynciau mwyaf hyblyg a defnyddiol o’r holl bynciau Lefel A. Mae'n cael ei ddisgrifio fel pwnc "faciliting" gan Grŵp Russell o brifysgolion blaenllaw, sy'n golygu ei fod yn arbennig wrth agor drysau i amrywiaeth eang o gyrsiau prifysgol, nid yn unig mathemateg.

Syniadau am swyddi ...

Mae'r rhai sy'n gymwys mewn mathemateg yn y sefyllfa ffodus o gael amrywiaeth eang o ddewisiadau gyrfa. Mae'r gallu i ddefnyddio meddwl rhesymegol, llunio problemau a thynnu casgliadau’n cael eu gwella i gyd gan gwrs gradd mathemateg. Mae rhai dewisiadau gyrfa yn cynnwys Economeg, Pensaernïaeth, Meddygaeth, Ystadegaeth, Peirianneg, Cyfrifeg, Dysgu, Seicoleg, Astudiaethau Amgylcheddol, Cyfrifiadureg, Ffiseg, Biocemeg, Seryddiaeth, Bioleg, Cemeg, Daeareg, Daearyddiaeth, Personél a Gwyddoniaeth Fforensig.

What will I learn?

Many career or university choices demand or benefit from an A Level Mathematics qualification. It teaches you to think in abstract terms and relate this to practical applications in many fields of study and ventures. The transferability of high-level thinking skills makes Mathematics a good choice.  A Level Mathematics builds on many of the topics you will have encountered at GCSE. For example, you will continue to study the methods of solving equations and move from the quadratic equations studied at GCSE to cubic, exponential and trigonometric equations. In addition to familiar topics such as probability and graphs, new topics like differentiation and integration will be introduced as well as wide-ranging applications in statistics and mechanics.

How will I learn?

Various and relevant methods of calculation, including using technology, will be used as you learn the work, and this will raise your confidence, your enjoyment and commitment.

Do I need any equipment?

You will require a calculator that includes an iterative function and has the ability to compute summary statistics and access probabilities from standard statistical distributions.

How will I be assessed?

Year 12 AS Unit 1: Pure Mathematics A                             Written examination 25%

Year 12 AS Unit 2: Applied Mathematics A                        Written examination 15%

Year 13 A2 Unit 3: Pure Mathematics B                            Written examination 35%

Year 13 A2 Unit 4: Applied Mathematics B                        Written examination: 25%

What is the next step after this course?

Maths is one of the most flexible and useful of A Level subjects. It is described as a "facilitating" subject by the Russell Group of Leading Universities, meaning that it is particularly useful in keeping a wide range of university courses open to you, not only mathematics.

Those who qualify in mathematics are in the fortunate position of having a wide range of career choices. The ability to use logical thought, formulate problems and make deductions are all enhanced by a mathematics degree course.  Such choices include Economics, Architecture, Medicine, Statistics, Engineering, Accountancy, Teaching, Psychology, Environmental Studies, Computing, Physics, Biochemistry, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography, Personnel and Forensic Science.
