Give yourself the best chance for a successful Meet

  1. Start your day with a reboot. Why? This clears all resources such as RAM that is held in stasis..

  2. Check your environment.

    1. Be where your signal strength is highest. You can check this by looking at the WiFi indicator on your device and by running a speed check at different areas of your home by clicking here then Click on the “Run Speed Test” button.

    2. Move away from signal generators such as microwave ovens, electric motors such as fans, coffee grinders, etc

    3. Manage your bandwidth. If you are sharing bandwidth with family members, arrange for them to do something else during your meet.

  3. Use the Chrome browser and sign in to the Chrome browser which is not the same as signing into your email.

  4. Restrict your tabs to only the ones needed for the meet. Guidelines are 4 for Chrome OS and 8 for Windows or Macs.

  5. Enhancements - Google is making enhancements such as noise filtering, grid view, and low light capability and the product is improving weekly. You can add other enhancements from third parties to improve the user experience.

  6. Use tips, tricks, and guides from your colleagues.

Other considerations

  • Only the Google Meet creator can mute any attendee.

  • Your school IT has access to the Google Meet Quality Tool. If you are having difficulty, call your IT staff. We can check the admin tool to see if the issue is originating at transmission routers or your network. This will help determine if you need to change something or if it is an issue that you have no control over.
