Coronation Celebrations

On Friday 5th May, children across the school got into the spirit of King Charles III's Coronation by wearing red, white and blue, singing the official coronation song and creating art work based on the special day. In the lead up to the special day, children in Key Stage 1 created artwork for Hoo Parish Council which was turned into bunting and displayed around Hoo village.

At lunchtime, we came together for a street party style lunch with all children eating outside with Union Flag placemats and treated to some specially-made Union Flag biscuits.

Our wonderful PTA created Coronation bookmarks, bought special coronation pencils and chocolate for every child in the school which was then presented in a Coronation mug donated by the Parish Council.

Personal Development

As you are aware, on Friday last week, Mr Bullock and I held a presentation to parents around Personal Development. We arranged this with December's parent survey in mind where it seemed apparent that not all parents were aware of what the school's strategy for helping children to develop both educationally and personally is.

In short, we truly aspire for children to be more than just educated by carefully curating opportunties to develop cultural capital (such as choir, after-school clubs, trips and visits, yoga and representing the academy at competitive events), an awareness of social, moral, spiritual and cultural understanding (through Theme of the Fortnight assemblies, the school's work on International Mindedness and the approach to curriculum delivery and embedding the IB Learner Profile Attributes) and developing the skills to be a successful member of a 21st Century global society.

You can find the key slides from the presentation here.

Theme of the Fortnight

The 'Theme of the Fortnight' for the next two weeks is that of Mental Health. With it being Mental Health Awareness week from the 15th to the 22nd of May, Paula Johnson, our resident counsellor, has created resources, activities and an assembly to deliver to children across the school.

With mental health being so key to confidence, happiness and preparedness to learn, we take this very seriously.

It seems like a sensible time to remind you of our tiered therapeutic approach whereby our school has a suite of support and interventions to support children who may need it.

As part of this approach we are able to offer mental-health first aiders, lego therapy, yoga therapy, dog therapy (where there is availability), ELSA therapy, play therapy and counselling.
