What is the Promotorx Transfomative Educator Program?

The Promotorx Transformative Educators Program provides students who are passionate about issues in education an opportunity to explore, research, and develop their action.

The program includes:

- Educational Enhancement Activities

- Teaching Activities

- Opportunities to attend conferences

- Participation in HSU's social justice and equity events

Through individual contracts, the program supports the fellows in designing an action research project.

Led by Dr. Marisol Ruiz-Gonzalez and the DHSI program staff, this program supports each fellows personal interests, passions and goals.

Current Session Information: Fall 2022

For the Fall 2022 session, our program will be meeting face to face .

  • Space is limited to 20 participants.

  • Priority will be given to students who are

    • (1) preparing for credential programs,

    • (2) who are interested in issues of social justice and education,

    • (3) who are in the junior or senior year,

    • (4) who are bilingual in English and Spanish,

    • (5) who agree to the schedule- working with youth or children and attending a conference.

However, all students – including freshmen and sophomores who are interested in learning more about education and teaching are encouraged to apply.

As with previous sessions, the Transformative Educators Fellows agree to about 40 hours worth of work . The Spring session includes understanding education, understanding teacher tools, learning teacher techniques, community work, and preparation for conference presentations.

Participants will:

  • (1) meet weekly in GH 218 Mondays from 5-7 pm

  • (2) participate in at least one of the following conferences: CA NAME Conference, or Multicultural Education Conference in Los Angeles.

  • (3) Be creating lessons and implementing them at the local high schools, and collecting local counternarratives to publish in Courageous Cuentos

Fall 2022 Application Process:

  • Fill out google form application using your HSU login.

  • Agree to curriculum and tasks for the semester.

  • Submit SPF Volunteer form (this includes being fingerprinted and a background check to go into schools)

You will be notified of your acceptance by Monday, 8/23.
