Summer Reading 2023
Huntington High School
In September ...
A reading quote organizer and a writing prompt will be distributed to those students who completed one of these books over the summer. Request this from your teacher in the first week of school.
Within two weeks of the beginning of school, students can submit the quotes, the reading organizer, and their written reaction to the book in order to receive the extra credit for the quarter. The written reaction should be no more than 250 words. It is to be concise, and directly connected to the prompt. Students who complete this written reaction will receive up to five points added to their 1st quarter English grade.
Go to the tab in the upper right of this page for your specific grade to find recommended titles.
All recommended titles are available at the HHS library.
Titles are also available at the Huntington Public library.

2023 Huntington Grades 9-12 English Summer Reading
Assignment Directions
Select 5-10 important lines/sections in total from the book that you’ve read that relate to the grade-level theme. Choose lines that show how a character acts, thinks, and feels, and/or specific plot events associated with the course theme. Quote the text. The quotes do not have to be the character’s dialogue; they can be part of the narration.
Quotes must be spread evenly and chosen from pages throughout the book. For example, take a few quotes that strike you as important, some from the beginning, a few from the middle, and others from the end of the book.
You will submit these quotes, along with a written response to a prompt your teacher will give you in September.
