Tools for finding a good book at HHS

Welcome to the Hudson High School Media Center!

Using this guide, students in grades 9–12 can access all sorts of resources that will help them find a book that matches their interests. From our own homegrown list of recommended reads to suggested books from around the world, we have something for everyone. Check out everything that the HHS library has to offer!

Your HHS Media Center staff have curated an ever-expanding collection of book recommendations. Use the tabs at the top of the page to navigate to the category of book you would like to investigate. From there, you can read short descriptions of recommended books we have in our library.

NoveList Plus is a searchable book advisory tool that helps people find new books to read. It can provide personalized recommendations based on interests, favorite authors, topics, and so much more! You can use this handy NoveList Plus User Guide, which shows you how to use this powerful resource. One of the best features of this tool is that you can link directly to the HHS library catalog to check if we have the book on our shelves. Try NoveList Plus to search for your next great read.

Our Sora digital library includes e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and comics. These can be accessed through any web browser using this link, or you can download a free app that can be installed on Apple and Android mobile devices. 

Logging into Sora is super easy. It authenticates through Google instantly by using your school login. Sora also lets you link your public library card. You can use your account with the Hudson Library & Historical Society to add the CLEVNET collection of library books to your Sora library.

Search for a specific title or explore topics of interest using the curated lists in Sora.

This website from the UK allows you to find books based on Mood & Emotion (where you can change sliding scales for up to four descriptor sets at once), spin the World Map to read from a particular country, choose books based on Character & Plot, or search suggested read-alikes based on curated Bestsellers lists. We love this resource and hope you will, too!

Fantastic Fiction is a site where you can search by genre, author, title, series, or format. Check out their comprehensive list of new books and soon-to-be-released titles. Fantastic Fiction has bibliographies for over 70,000 authors. If you love novels, this is a great resource to explore.

Want to know what other high school students are reading? This Teens' Top Ten list is selected by readers ages twelve to eighteen. Check out the amazing books that have been chosen in past years.

If you have come across a new book published in the last year, you can nominate it for the latest YALSA Teens' Top 10. You are also invited to peruse all the nominated titles and vote online to help decide on this year's list. Your voice and those of other teens are the only ones that matter!

The Young Adult Library Services Association develops several lists that highlight the best of YA books and media each year. Here are some worth visiting for book recommendations:
