Yankee’s 2024 Offseason Recap
We are 10 days out from the 2024 MLB Opening Day and for fans of contending teams, the excitement and anticipation is at an all-time high. The Yankees had a very disappointing season last year, finishing with an 82-80 record which stemmed from a combination of poor play and injuries. This was the worst finish for the team since 1992! In the offseason, general manager Brian Cashman decided to make splashes via trade and free agency market to get his team back to the World Series and their winning ways.
The following moves include:
Trades:
Trent Grisham (CF); 2.0 WAR, 50 RBI, 13 HR, 15 SB, & 7 OOA
Juan Soto (OF/DH): 5.5 WAR, 109 RBI, 35 HR, 12 SB, .410 OBP, .930 OPS, & 158 OPS+
Alex Verdugo (OF): 2.6 WAR, 54 RBI, 13 HR, .745 OPS, & 5 outfield assits
Victor Gonzalez (RP): 0.3 WAR, 4.01 ERA, 8.0 K/9, 3.4 FIP, & 54.3 GB%
Caleb Fergyson (RP): 0.1 WAR, 3.43 ERA, 3.34 FIP, 10.4 K/9, & 45.7 GB%
Free Agent Signings:
Marcus Stroman (SP): 1.6 WAR, 3.95 ERA, 3.58 FIP, 7.8 K/9, 57.4 GB%
The Yankees have 8 more games before going to Houston for Opening Day. Some young standouts in Tampa include Spencer Jones (OF), Austin Wells (C), George Lombard (SS), Jordan Vivas (2B), Luis Gil (SP), Clayton Beeter (SP), & Will Warren (SP). With an elbow injury to Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil or Clayton Beeter could use this as an opportunity to get some starts in at the major league level. The Yankees are projected to win 94.5 games. A major step up from last year. With some of the younger guys as well as the new additions, as long as this team stays healthy they can easily hit this mark, get back to October, and earn the long awaited 28th World Series Championship.
