Madison Szczepanski
Each year when spring comes around Steinert Baseball comes back, eager as ever to get started up again. The three baseball teams, Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity, are all looking forward to a great season.
Reflecting on last season, varsity coach Mr. Giallella says that they had a 17-9 streak. Talking more about last season, Giallella goes on to say how it went well, even if they “did not make it as far in the State Tournament and the Mercer County Tournament” as he hoped they would. He went on to say how he thinks that it is a “good start and good preparation for this year.” For this upcoming season, he says he is optimistic and he has a lot of great pitching back. He has “a lot of optimism and hope” and he says that “we have a really good group of players and that we can be really good this year,”.
Junior varsity coach Mr. Szczepanski goes to add how his season was last year with his players. He starts by saying how it went to be a great year and it being interesting since “a lot of the freshmen came up and helped us” and how the overall team “did a really nice job and hopefully they will be able to move onto the next level this year.” For this season, Szczepanski wants to say to “come out, ready to work hard, get better every day and we’ll see how things turn out by the end of May,”.
Freshman coach Mr. Stromberg says about his team's season last year, “We had some struggles based on the numbers with the kids going up and down” but he says that he was “really proud how our players progressed from the start of the season to the end,”. Stromberg also adds how proud he was with how they kept being positive and then attacking practice each time. For this season, he is really excited for the upcoming group. “I’ve heard a lot about them and I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach them,”. He wanted to end off by saying “hopefully this class can move forward through Steinert,”.
Overall, this season will bring hard work within the players as individuals and for the whole team. Their hard work and perseverance will keep this season going for all of them together.
