The swim team had their 2024 season opener on December 7th at home versus Hopewell Valley. Sean Moore placed first in the 100 Back with a 1:04.66 as his time. On the girls team, Anna Smithson did a very nice job on the 500 Free where she placed second. Our girls, Kaitlyn Davis, Lily VanDero, Nathania Chacon, and Anna Smithson, also did outstanding in the 200 Free Relay earning them second place as well. While the team put up a great fight, they unfortunately lost against the opposing Hopewell Valley Bulldogs.
On December 14th, they faced Nottingham High School in the Northstars’ backyard. The team had a tough fight with many key swimmers injured and missing. This left Nottingham with the advantage to take the win. After a grueling two hours, Steinert took home their first win of the season! Both the boys and girls teams showed up and showed out, taking home many first places in all the events excluding 100 Fly and 100 Breast for the girls.
The team is trying to keep up this energy for the rest of their season. They have quite a long road ahead of them, but their determination and work ethic is very promising. Under coaches Melker, Tasco, and Leone, the team is in great hands to perform the best that they can. Their Mercer County Tournament is at the end of January which is the biggest meet for the team, other than the newly established Tri Meet. The Tri Meet consists of Steinert and our hometown competitors, Nottingham and West. Our boys and girls swim teams are coming back stronger and ready to redeem their title from the first one last year.
