This school year, the longest tenured teacher Mr. Yacyk is retiring. While being excited for his retirement, he wants to look back on all of his memories at Steinert.
Mr. Yacyk has been a teacher for 43 years at Steinert and his colleague, Mr. Holcombe has been teaching for only 4 years less than him. During his time of teaching here, he has been an amazing teacher, coach and advisor to DECA, which he has been doing since his first year of teaching. He has also coached five positions and one of his favorite coaching memories was “going undefeated in 2003 in freshman football year and having three undefeated football teams,”.
Through his time at Steinert, he has made many fond memories. He says that he has “found memories with coaching, different parts of being an advisor and teaching,”. He also says that at Steinert, he was “lucky enough to work with great staff and great students”. From his time at Steinert, he has met many colleagues and some that he wanted to mention were Mr. Simic, Mr. Hood, Mr. Holcombe, Mr. Flanagan, Mr. Jenkins, and Mrs. Yacyk.
After his retirement, he hopes to travel and “see different parts of the country”. Along with this, he points out that he is a huge Phillies fan and would finally like to see their spring training. He says that he has never been to a spring training and that going down to see them is one thing he wants to do next year. He would also like to travel overseas.
Mr. Yacyk says that once he leaves he will be missing “the people I work with and the interaction with the students,”. His part in the Spartan community will forever be remembered by the staff and students, especially the ones that had him as their teacher, coach, or advisor. He hopes to be remembered as “being a good teacher and a good coach and somebody for the kids to see everyday,”.
