It was the afternoon of April 24th 2023. It was a normal day until 4x AP NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets. The trade to New York was widely expected but as soon as the trade happened, it was nothing but excitement in the Big Apple.
The only problem with the trade was that the Jets had to mortgage a lot of their future to make this trade possible. New York had to ship off a 1st and a 6th round draft pick in 2023, and a 2nd round pick in 2024. At the time, most people in the Empire State couldn’t really care and for good reason as they acquired a proven winner for a team that has the longest playoff drought in North American sports.
As days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, the anticipation only grew and grew for Rodgers and the Jets.
Then came September 11th, 2023. The beginning of the season for the Jets, a season where the sky was the limit. Aaron Rodgers storms onto the field with the American Flag in his hands. He’s met with 83,345 people standing out of their seats ready for him to get a chance to beat their division rival the Buffalo Bills.
After the Bills on the first possession punted the football to the Jets meant the first snaps of Aaron Rodgers New York Jets career. After a rush, and 2 incomplete passes, Rodgers was sacked on his 4th play by Bills Outside Linebacker Leonard Floyd.
After this play, Rodgers wasn’t able to get up on the turf as his lower-ankle was in a lot of pain. Aaron couldn’t believe what happened as he said, “I can’t believe I just got hurt, and it’s serious. Hope I’m wrong. But that left ankle.” Metlife Stadium was so quiet that it felt like King Charles coordination.
Rodgers was then put on a medical cart and taken back into the Jets locker room. From there the Jets medical staff performed X-Rays on Rodgers. Those X-rays came back negative but all that means is that there isn’t that much swelling in the ankle.
The Jets actually with a late game rally were able to stun the Bills 22-16 in overtime. The Jets can thank Bills QB Josh Allen for his 4 turnovers and the relief of QB Zach Wilson who came in for Rodgers after he left the game. Wilson was actually the Jets 2nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. But after his early career struggles and Jets acquisition of Rodgers didn’t give him a choice but to be the backup in New York.
The next morning, the news came out that Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilies and would be out for the rest of the season. Rodgers, devastated, Jets fans now had their nightmare turned into reality.
Even though Rodgers has said on ESPN’s Pat Mcafee Show that he’ll try to be ready for the playoffs, the Jets are far away from even thinking about the playoffs. After that Buffalo game, the Jets haven’t been victorious since and now sit at a record of 1-3. Even worse the Jet offense has only scored 50 points in those 3 games which is good for the 4th worst in the league. Jets fans think they’ve seen enough of their offense as they have been booing Zach Wilson and Head Coach Robert Saleh off the field. Even though Wilson looked good on 10/1 vs the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jets need to see more complete performances if they want to see Aaron Rodgers playing Quarterback.
