The Steinert Track and Field team has been working hard throughout their season so far. The track team has two dual meets, which are meets where they compete against one other school, under their belt, and one tri-meet where they face two other schools.. They also just recently competed in the Mercer County Relays, and their sophomores competed in a county meet as well.. The relays are where runners pass off a baton as they run and throwers' top scores get added as a relay team.
Steinert sent their girls and boys 4 by 100 relay teams to the Penn Relays with high hopes for the competition. A 4 by 100 relay is where one lap of the track is completed with 4 different runners doing 100 meters. The girls team of Gracie Wilson, Karina Reilly, Hailie Zimmerman, and Nani Matos did very well, finished second in their heat with a time of 53.16, and placed respectively overall.
I had the chance to get a quote from the girl’s head Coach Michael Giacobbe about the track season. “Spring Track season is always a special time of the year. It’s great to be outside as the weather begins to get nice and everything comes back to life. It’s also a great time to see all the hard work that goes into being ready for the spring track season. Most of our athletes have been active since July, having participated in cross country and winter track, and are ready to finish their athletic year on a high note. This year's girl’s track team is anchored by our seniors: Ruby Crowell, Karina Reilly, Lina Rucuch, Olivia Simone, and Makenna Swasey. We are looking forward to seeing how our young core of athletes continue to develop, and are excited to see our strong throwing program compete at a very high level.”
With everything that the track team completed this season, everyone has high hopes for competitions in the later season such as Counties and States.
