The rock band Foreigner has been an influential rock band to the world of music since their first hit in the 1970s. Their popularity continued on for three decades, making this band a long-loved favorite. Many people today still listen to their numerous top hits. This band is a staple to late 1900s music whose impact on the music industry is still seen today. And next fall, some of our very own Steinert Spartans have the incredible opportunity to open for this legendary band on their farewell tour at their stop at the PNC Bank Arts Center on September 3rd.
The a cappella group, named the Spartones, participated in a fierce competition and was voted to open for the infamous Foreigner. The Spartones had to send in a sung performance video of a rock artist’s or group’s song (but not a Foreigner song), and were chosen to move onto the second round, where they had to earn the most votes online. After a tough competition, the Spartones took the top spot and now are selected to open for Foreigner’s final tour.
This opportunity is once-in-a-lifetime and will draw attention to the Spartones and put them on the map as an incredibly talented group of students. This chance is like no other for high school students to be associated with such a well-known and influential band. The Spartones talent is apparent in their ability to win such a competition. Their win will bring positive attention to both themselves and the Steinert community. This impressive win is due to the talent and hard work from the students and teachers who put in the effort to earn this amazing opportunity.
In addition to this incredible achievement, the group, under the leadership of Miss Curtin recently hosted an a cappella festival at the school which featured groups performing from over 14 schools in the area. The groups attended workshops and were critiqued by the Temple University a cappella group Owlcappella. At the end of competition, awards were given out to Spartones members Diana Schultz and Matthew Catalfomo for Best Musicians. It was a tremendous success for the program, and continues to build notoriety for the group and our school’s music program.
