In Steinert High School, there have been many activities that have happened this year, such as fundraising opportunities that benefited the entire school, information provided to incoming freshmen at orientation, and there is much more planned. This all happened from the amazing PTSA. President Melissa Spitzner and Vice President Anne Szczepanski are two of the executive board members of this PTSA and are happy to help explain what exactly the organization is and what it does.
The PTSA, Parent Teacher Student Association, is to spread the news of events to the people that are involved with Steinert High School. This association’s goal is to bring people together in the school. PTSA President, Melissa Spitzner, points out how “elementary school PTA’s are very active and do a lot.” While the students get into middle school and high school, “membership tends to dwindle.” One of the main problems that they are trying to solve is with “trying to get back up and running to be an active organization” and on how to get new members to join. With new members, they can get help with the projects that they have to come up with.
Some people may wonder why they should join the PTSA, but both Melissa Spitzner and Anne Szczepanski have the answers. Vice President, Anne Szczepanski said, “One reason to join us is to support the school, students, and the teachers. By showing your support, you would also be able to get involved and get to know what is going on in the school.” Melissa added that “it’s an organization that supports the entire school.”
Some of the PTSA’s main goals are to sponsor scholarships for the seniors and to get teacher appreciation week to be up and running again. Events that help with these goals are the dining out fundraisers. Mrs. Szczepanski said that “the next one is May 2 at Brothers Pizza.” For the place to know you are there for the fundraiser, Melissa says to “bring a flier that we will have up on our website and social media.” One of the future activities that the PTSA are trying to do is to feature the teachers in a spelling bee. Melissa says that the PTSA is “thinking about a spelling bee for the fall with teachers as the participants. This activity would be able to gather excitement from the students with them seeing the teachers competing.” Anne added that it would be “something fun to see them more as a human than a teacher.”
Meetings for the PTSA are every second Wednesday of the month over Zoom and you can find the information on the Steinert’s FaceBook page and their Instagram at “steinerthsptsa”. At these pages you will see all of the events and activities advertised.
Overall, the PTSA is an amazing association for teachers, students, and parents to be more involved in Steinert High School. The PTSA is still looking for more members and hope for people to join and increase their membership.
