On March 28th, different worlds collided and joined together as one. Various cultures full of delicious foods, beautiful languages, elegant clothing, music, and traditions united to celebrate their differences. Students from the Steinert Ambassadors Club, as well as their families, came together to represent their individual cultures. There were students representing cultures from all parts of the world on their designated table including: Guatemala, Costa Rica, China, Puerto Rico, China, India, Pakistan, Haiti, Ecuador, Uzbekistan, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Honduras, and Egypt. This event took place in the Steinert cafeteria. Fifteen tables were set up to divide and identify all the different cultures present in the Steinert High School. Hamilton, although a small town, is filled up with people that come from many different backgrounds.
This event gave students the opportunity to express themselves and connect with others. Students who would usually refrain from embracing their history and background arrived dressed up in all kinds of traditional clothing and brought along delicious food for others to feast on. Other students had the chance to gain insight on the individual lifestyles of their peers. This activity helped students achieve gratitude for where they came from and who they are. They are better able to see the beauty that lies within different cultures of this world.
Every student had the chance to try out flavorsome sweets, drinks, and desserts from these divergent regions. There was music, food, and a whole lot of joy. Several dance performances took place showcasing the differing styles of dancing from the various cultures. The audience clapped along and absorbed the joyous memories of the night.
Mrs. Bogdan, the advisor of this club said that her goal for this event was “to help the students as well as their families feel that our school appreciates their culture.” She went on to say, “Parents as well as most of the students seemed to have enjoyed the celebration.”
The Multicultural Night was organized by the Ambassadors Club. The Steinert Student Ambassadors Club (SSA) is a club designed to welcome new students from other countries and districts. When asked to describe this organization with one word, Mrs. Bogdan uses the word ‘community’ to illustrate her passion for this club. It is designed to help those students transition smoothly into Steinert and feel included amongst their peers. The club encourages all to get involved in sports and other curricular activities. The club assists with recruitment activities such as high school night presentations, meet and greets, parent engagement night, freshman orientation, and more!
