The Varsity Steinert Girls Basketball team has had a solid season with 8 wins and 6 loses so far this season. With multiple tough teams in the league, Steinert has been able to hold their own and come out on top.
Senior Ashley Adamson leads the team in points with 153 points with 31 three pointers, and 14 free throws made. Senior Juliana Ryder leads the team in steals with 55 and junior Brooke Sinay leads the team with 79 rebounds. Juliana Ryder is also the second place point scorer coming in with 39 two pointers and 19 free throws made.
“Our seniors this year are winners and have been winners in whatever sport they play.” Varsity head coach, Kristin Jacobs, says about the team. When asked about their chances of making the playoffs, Jacobs said, “I think there is a good chance. Now, we are fighting for a seeding position. We would like to be top 8 for Mercer county and top 6 for States.”
The Steinert Spartans Girls basketball team has not been able to compete at the states level since 2017.
The team’s goal for the remainder of the season is to continue to build on what they have already learned and created. They are also looking to make the top 8 in the Mercer County tournament and advance past the first round of the State competition.
However, there are some challenges ahead. The Steinert Girls team will soon be faced with teams that have more experience while the Spartans continue to learn the best way to play their game. The performance of the players so far this season establishes a promising future.
