A building hum of anticipation filled all the students sitting on the bleachers. It was finally time for one of the greatest, most hype events of the year. Students had impatiently waited for this day for over two years. Due to the pandemic, yearly Steinert traditional events and social activities had been stripped away from us. This created a cynical tension in the students of Steinert High School. Fortunately, we have regained this privilege as the Wacky Races make an arrival back into the gym!
November 17th, 2022 marked the day full of exhilaration, laughter, and ambitious competition. The event started off with the electrifying seniors taking a lap around the gym and radiating their energy towards the crowd. Next came a series of games that intensified this new-found spirit.
The numerous thrilling games included: balloon pop, a hula hoop chain, a rapid scooter race, dizzy izzy race, human knot, musical chairs, three-legged race, over-under relay, cup race, spike ball, mat surfing race, a pie eating contest, and tug of war.
All the grades had put in their sweat and effort as their pride was on the line. The ultimate competition boiled down to the tug of war. In an interesting turn of events, the seniors dragged the juniors down immediately. It didn’t take the seniors even 5 seconds to use all the mighty strength they possessed and bring home victory. The juniors came in second place, defeated, yet still adrenalized. The fierce freshmen beat the sophomores for third place.
Wacky Races 2022 became a memorable day largely due to the isolation students had been facing prior this school year. This event helped the students to unite and display what it profoundly means to have Steinert Spirit.
