In Steinert High School, we have many wonderful staff members who make sure that our days run smoothly. You may have noticed a new face in the halls, the cafeteria, or even peeking into your classroom. The new face is Mrs. Costantino, our new Vice Principal.
She is no stranger to Hamilton Township Schools. “My whole family has been raised in Hamilton.” Both she, her son and her husband graduated from Hamilton High West, and her daughter is a Steinert graduate. She has been working in Hamilton schools for 27 years. She first worked as a teacher at Greenwood Elementary School, and she then was a teacher at Crockett Middle School where she then became an administrator there. And then, this year, she came here to Steinert in November, where she is very excited to begin working at the high school level.
When asked why she left Crockett Middle School, she said, “I always wanted to work at the high school level, but I needed to wait until my two children graduated, because I was very involved in all of their activities. I knew working as an administrator in a high school community would involve lots of time attending after school activities, and I wanted to be available to do those things.”
During a typical day at Steinert, she starts by going to first period classes “twice a week” to say good morning to everyone. She also greets people when they walk into school and when she sees them in the hallway. She “tries to take a floor a day” because of how big the school is. It’s clear that she wants to be very visible to the students in the school community.
Once she is done greeting people, she works a lot on different things. She “deals with cut slips and other disciplinary issues.” She also does observations for the teachers at Steinert. However, her main responsibility is dealing with testing. She feels that this will be her biggest challenge this year, but she is excited and up for the task.
The part of the job that she is most excited about is being involved in all of the extracurricular activities like the plays and the concerts. “I enjoy all of the activities that the high school has to offer.”
It’s only been a few months, but it is clear that the Steinert community is very excited about Mrs. Costantino being the new vice principal. Students have commented on how positive her morning check-ins are and on her very friendly personality. One student said that they have seen her more in a month than they saw last year’s principal in a year. Her feelings on her new job in the halls of Steinert High School can be summed up with her three-word quote: “I love it!”
