Policies and Procedures

Learning ENVIRONMENT

I strive to allow for our students to have a safe and efficient learning environment. This means all students will show respect for their peers, their teachers, but most importantly themselves.

  • Avoid touching or writing on anything that does not belong to you (including desks, textbooks, teacher’s belongings, walls, chalkboard, etc.). Don't expect that others will clean-up your messes. Please pick-up after yourself.
  • Respect yourself and the rest of us by using appropriate language and wearing appropriate clothing.
  • Be a kind person and take responsibility for your own actions.

Put forth your best effort at all times

  • Always do your own best work.
  • Put learning ahead of getting good grades.
  • Put quality ahead of just getting it done.

Pay attention, participate and ask questions

  • Engage in what is going on in the classroom.
  • If you have a question, ask it! Otherwise, I might not know until the test that you did not understand something. There are no stupid questions, and chances are, if you are wondering about it, someone else in the class is to.
  • Be proactive about your learning and don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you feel most comfortable waiting until after class, that is okay, too, but do keep communication open between us.

C = 70-79 D = 65-69

F = 64 & below

QUIZZES

Quizzes will be announced at least three days before they are taken.

All quizzes will be open notes allowing for one page of notes (front & back). These notes can be hand written or typed in any size font. Notes cannot be photocopied or shared. The purpose of writing your notes is to help you to study and absorb the information has been provided in class.

Tests

Tests will be announced at least one week before they are taken.*

Tests will be a summative assessment of all materials covered for a specified segment in class. All tests will be closed book/no notes unless announced prior.

*The only time they will be given on a shorter notice is if they will be open book/notes.

HOMework

You will not receive written homework every night, however, you should be reviewing notes and materials, in your binder, on a daily basis. You should spend approximately 10-20 minutes a night on this task. This should improve your comprehension of the material and prepare you for class discussions, activities, and assessments.

Homework assignments can be turned in via google classroom or written in your notebook.

All assignments are worth 100 points. Any assignments not presented in class on the due date (including those left in the student’s locker) are considered late. They can be turned in to up to one week late for half credit. This does not apply to students that were absent.

*Students missing class for chorus/band/ or other school activity are responsible to get the work they missed the day they are missing class or it is considered late.

Extra Credit

There will be many opportunities for extra credit that can be applied to tests and quizzes. These opportunities will be up to the discretion of the teacher and are based on their academic nature and demand.

The purpose of extra credit is not lifeboat for poor academic performance, rather an extrinsic device to stimulate an intrinsic desire for your personal quest for higher knowledge.

Materials for class

Students are required to bring the following materials with them everyday to class. Once entering the room students will not be permitted to return to their locker because they forgot to bring an item(s) with them. Please make sure everyday you have your:
