The High Tech High Graduate School of Education (GSE) is committed to the continual improvement of teaching and learning. To ensure this goal, the GSE has developed an Institutional Review Plan to assess the Program Learning Outcomes across academic programs, and evaluate institutional goals for growth and sustainability.
The Institutional Review Plan consists of two parallel components that run on concurrent cycles and culminate in Institutional Review.
Institutional Assessment
Institutional Assessment focuses explicitly on outcomes related to teaching and learning.
Annual Assessment
Annual Assessment includes annual reviews of selected Program Learning Outcomes. The PLOs are examined on a cyclical basis, so that each outcome is examined every other year, resulting in the documentation of an Annual Assessment Report for the M.Ed. program.
Program Review
The two year Annual Assessment cycle repeats twice and culminates in the fifth year in Program Review, which is documented in Program Review Reports.
Institutional Evaluation
Evaluation focuses explicitly on goals-setting and improvement efforts at the institutional, program and individual levels.
Each year, GSE faculty participate in a goal-setting process to analyze data and establish goals for the following year.
Institutional Review Process
The fifth year of the Institutional Review Cycle is dedicated to the formal Institutional Review Process, bringing both Institutional Assessment and Evaluation together. This involves a look back at the reports, results and changes made in the previous reviews of Institutional Assessment outcomes and goals, as well as an analysis of the impact of those changes and the documentation of any new plans for moving forward. The outcomes and findings of the Program Reviews are examined in concert with those from the Evaluation, and a Institutional Review Report that addresses all aspects of the institution is composed.
Before moving forward with the implementation of any proposed changes, the GSE Strategic Plan is revisited and aligned with the GSE budget, ensuring that next steps for improvement are in line with the strategic direction of the institution, and are sustainable.
In addition to this process of closing the loop on the findings from the data collection in the first three years of the cycle, there is a specific focus on evaluating the GSE’s review processes during the Institutional Review Year.
