Glencoe Theater + Film Creates a Completely New Kind of Production
In this year's Glencoe HS fall production, Glencoe students are the first performers of the wildly different Laila, Maria, and Bruce Get a Life. In this world premiere Theater + Film + Music production, three young adults begin a new life in a new place. The challenges, fears, successes, and doubts of that journey come to life through scenes, songs, and images, as Laila, Maria, and Bruce navigate the unknown.
Full of heart, humor, and truth, this special production is impactful, entertaining, and truly unlike anything GHS, or anyone, has done before. From an original rock score, to filmed sequences, to a unique take on the young adult experience, this production is not to be missed.
This production started as a question last winter—how could live theater, film, and music truly be combined in meaningful ways in one production that fully employs the strengths of each? After the success of Trap! In fall of 2024, including its unique use of film, Glencoe Theater + Film began the journey to create a production that is not just original but is also completely unique in its format and full integration of film, stage, and music.
Beyond the excitement of creating something so incredibly different, this show brings hope to those who watch it—to anyone who has felt that building a life of joy is impossible or that risks are seldom rewarded. This production is about making change, facing fear, and finding purpose, love, and community.
