Summer Programs 2023

This year Horizon Science Academy Middle School is offering three Summer Program options for our students. Please read below or click on the link above for information pertaining to each option.

Summer School will be a 3 week program.

Beginning on June 5th

Ending on June 22nd

Monday-Thursday

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Lunch will be provided

This option is for 6th graders and 7th graders only. The Summer Enrichment Program will focus on enriching student's knowledge in the areas of English Language Arts and Math that incorporate Project Based Learning. Below is the Course topics students will be participating in based on the grade they have completed during the 2022-2023 school year.

*Note the building will be closed on June 19th to celebrate Juneteenth

There is a one time of $10 fee to reserve each student's spot and a Chromebook for the Summer Enrichment Program. Which must be paid to the front office, prior to the student participating. On the last day, June 22nd, students that have completely participated in all 3 weeks of the Summer Enrichment Program and have turned in a permission slip will be invited to go to COSI for the day, 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. We will use this fee to pay for your student's entry into COSI.

Option One: Summer Enrichment Program Registration

by June 2nd

The registration asks for the student's name, email, and grade. 

There are limited spots, so only the students that have paid the fee and have completed the Summer Enrichment Program Registration Google Form will be considered fully registered. All other students will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted if a spot is available. 

This program is an opportunity for students to earn credit or enrichment toward both Middle School and High School Courses. The courses offered are tested subject specific for the opportunity for promotional purposes. 

Your student will receive prior notification if they need to register for this option.

This is an independent program that will be completed by the student from home through Edgenuity. Students will not be coming to the school building to complete course work. 

This option cost $25 per course to participate with a max of two courses and must be paid prior to participating in the courses and to reserve a Chromebook if needed. The cost is not refundable.

All courses will begin June 5th and must be complete by July 17th

On July 17th at 9:00 a.m. Students will come to the building to take their exiting exam.

Students will be required to complete 100% of the course, receive at least a 60% on the exiting exam, and be approved by Admin to earn credit.

To complete registration, the parent and student must have prior notification and have signed the registration form in person with Mrs. Gibson by June 2nd as an agreement to receive credit.

Students can use their own computer to complete the courses or a parent will need to come to the building to pick up a Chromebook. A Chromebook will only be given if the registration is completed and the fee has been paid. Parents will be able to pick up their student's Chromebook after registering and having paid the $25 fee starting on June 5th.

This option is free and no registration required.

Students will read independently throughout the summer. Students can keep track of what they have read and earn prizes by completing a Summer Reading BINGO card and Reading Log.

Students will turn in the signed BINGO card and Reading log at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year to Mrs. Mitzel to earn their choice of prize.
