Dear Parents,
Hello my name is Derik Lantz and I will be your child’s 7th grade social studies teacher. I graduated from Kent State University in 2014 with a Bachelors degree in Integrated Social Studies 7-12 and in 2021 I completed my Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Youngstown State University. I am entering my 10th year as a teacher and this is my 9th year at Howland. You will need the following items for my class:

Spiral Notebook
Folder/Binder
Pen/Pencil
I have bought several boxes of markers and colored pencils but if you would like to have a set of your own that would be great but not necessary.
This semester our study of history will include, The Hebrews and Judaism, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Christianity, and Early Islamic and African Civilizations, The Middle Ages, The Renaissance and Reformation, and many more fun events from the past and present.
I would like you to return the parent survey, but I would like you to keep this cover sheet so you can have my contact information (see bottom of page) readily available.

CLASSROOM RULES
1. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
2. Bring all materials to class and make sure Chromebooks are charged!
3. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.
4. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. No cursing, teasing, or bullying. Respect is a two way street!
6. Please keep cell phones out of sight!!!
7. I will dismiss you not the bell, you are to remain seated, do not attempt to lineup or crowd the door prior to dismissal.
8. Follow the Howland Middle School Code of Conduct
