Did you know that Howest has been participating in an international military cyber exercise for five consecutive years? The event is organized by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE).
This year, six lecturers from the Cyber Security program joined the challenge once again, working alongside an international team of experts from Latvia, Luxembourg, and Belgium. In a highly realistic scenario, they spent several days defending a sabotaged network against live, real-time cyberattacks.
On Tuesday, May 13, the participants will share their unique experiences:
💥 What is it like to be on the digital battlefield under intense pressure?
🎯 What happens when you accidentally strike your own team (friendly fire)?
💡 What technical and human lessons did they learn?
👀 Get ready for an evening full of thrilling stories, bloopers, stress, and technical takeaways, straight from one of the world’s most intense cyber defence training events.
Who should attend?
📚 Students interested in cybersecurity
👔 Professionals working in IT, defense, or digital security
🎓 Alumni & Howest staff

For years, we've been told that people are the weakest link in cybersecurity. But does that still hold true now that companies are deploying countless AI bots? Can artificial human-like intelligence also fall victim to phishing, scams, and manipulation?
For decades, we've mastered the art of deception and persuasion to achieve our goals. In this interactive session, you'll learn essential techniques that could come in handy when convincing an AI agent to waive your parking ticket, negotiating with a computer over the price of your car, or even uncovering whether ChatGPT secretly plans to take over the world...

While Quantum Computing offers an extremely promising approach for solving complex problems, the other side of the coin is the Quantum Threat. This term refers to the fact that Quantum Algorithms will become capable to break our traditional cryptography used daily across all IT systems and spread over different types of components.
Are there already cryptography algorithms that are resistant against Quantum attacks?
What about the standards and regulations?
When should organizations start their Quantum-Safe journey?
What would be a typical migration approach? What is “Agile Crypto”? Can software tools be used to make life easier?
Can the IT infrastructure and Cloud environments be enhanced to be Quantum-Resistant?
Do you want answers to these intriguing questions? Then enroll for this inspiring Tech&Meet session.
After the talk, there will be plenty of time for Q&A.
Speaker: Eric Michiels is Executive Architect at IBM as well as IBM Quantum Ambassador. As such he provides lectures, demonstrations and workshops around Quantum Computing and Quantum-Safe, at organizations across sectors as well as in the Academic World.
