AP ENGLISH: LITERATURE & COMPOSITION 11, 12
1 CREDIT Career Pathway: AC English Literature is designed to prepare students with advanced language skills for their college experiences. Students study a wide time-range in literature, from Arthurian legends to modernist fiction, and read in a variety of genres, from the brilliant Shakespearean drama of Hamlet to the satire of Gulliver's Travels. Also, a strong emphasis on college writing skills is provided. Types of essays include comparison/contrast, description, definition, research, and literary analysis papers in characterization, poetry, setting, mood, and others. Students learn the structural and mechanical elements of good writing, as well as the critical thinking skills of literary analysis. Oral presentations, creative writing, history of the English monarchy, and regular vocabulary study are features of this course.
