Mrs. Starr is beginning her 20th year at Howell Schools.  She earned her BA in Secondary Education from Ferris State University and her Masters of Education in School Counseling at Eastern Michigan University.  Mrs. Starr taught English and Social Studies at the middle school before becoming a middle/high school counselor.  She has been a school counselor at Howell High School for 8 years.  She is married and has two daughters who graduated from HHS.  As the freshman counselor, Mrs. Starr enjoys helping students transition from middle school to high school, supporting students with career planning, with social emotional growth, and academic counseling.  She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and boating.    

Mr. Bentley is beginning his 7th year as a school counselor (second year at HHS).  He earned a BA in Biopsychology and Masters of Education both from Grand Valley State University.  Mr. Bentley is also the head coach for Howell freshman football and supervises the school’s Dungeons & Dragons Club.  He enjoys supporting students regarding academics, college/career investigation, and social/emotional growth.  Outside of school Mr. Bentley enjoys reading comic books, weightlifting, and spending time with his family. 
Mr. Eric Clifton is enjoying his career of being a School Counselor. Prior to becoming a School Counselor, he was the Director of Bands for both middle schools in Howell for twelve years! Teaching students the enjoyment and performance of music, and helping students and parents navigate the high school curriculum and plan for their future goals have developed into his career goals.Mr. Clifton graduated from Howell High School, then earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University followed by his Master of Arts Degree in School Counseling from Eastern Michigan University. He is married with three children, and all five family members earned degrees from WMU! He enjoys being outdoors and experiencing the beauty of nature, hiking and biking on trails and looks forward to attending live concerts in the future.  Please reach out to your School Counselor if you have any needs regarding school counseling needs, or want information on community resources for counseling. Mr. Kurt Roy-Borland (RB)


Mr. Kurt Roy-Borland is excited to be a Highlander. He enjoys time with his wife Heidi and boys Ethan and Jacob on their small family farm planting his garden and orchard. As a Sparty/Eagles grad, and having worked for the U for over a decade he enjoys watching football, leading wilderness trips, and practicing traditional living skills. He is joining the counseling staff, and hopes to make a contribution to the Highlander football and wrestling programs as well. He looks forward to meeting you all, and getting to know each of you better.

     Ms. Deschenes is beginning her 18th year working at Howell High School.  This is her 9th year as a counselor in the 10-12 building.  Her first 9 years at Howell High School were spent at the Freshman Campus as a special education teacher.  She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Learning Disabilities from Madonna University and Her Master’s degree in School Counseling from Western Michigan University.  Ms. Deschenes thoroughly enjoys working with students and parents in the Howell community, including her role as counselor for the International Exchange students at Howell High School.  She has three children, including one Howell High School graduate, and two children currently attending Howell Schools.  Outside of school Ms. Deschenes enjoys camping, swimming, bike riding, going for walks with her dogs, and spending time with her children.   
     Ms. Wagner earned her master’s degree in Education with a specialization in School Counseling from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Her undergrad was done at Siena Heights University where she played both volleyball and basketball. She has 25 years of coaching, teaching and counseling experience. Ms. Wagner and her husband, Chris have five children. The oldest just had grand baby number one and the youngest is a Junior in high school. Ms. Wagner is currently the 8th grade Volleyball coach at Parker. She is also a licensed massage therapist and breeds Labrador Retrievers.
Mrs. Marcum is beginning her 21st year as a school counselor.  Previously she was a full time clinical therapist and currently maintains a small practice today.  Mrs. Marcum’s career highlights include presenting at a national Character Education conference in Washington D.C., being named Challenge Day Coordinator of the Month in 2004 and teaching Health class for eight years.  She loves being a school counselor and finds that her favorite part is connecting with students and building relationships. Mrs. Marcum is married to her husband, Ron and has two boys who are both recent graduates from Howell High School.  She likes to spend her time reading, working out in her home gym, doing yoga, volunteering at the Livingston County Animal Shelter and playing with her four dogs, Izzy, Rocco, Roxy and Nala.
