About me
Mr. Elam is the Director of Bands at Hamilton Middle School here in Houston, Texas. He teaches all band classes on campus and directs all bands at HMS. He has been teaching for 5 years at multiple campuses including, Montgomery High School, Montgomery Junior High School, Waltrip High School, and now Hamilton Middle School. Mr. Elam has been a member of this community his entire life, as he attended Oak Forest ES, Clifton MS, and Waltrip HS. His Bachelors Degree was earned at Sam Houston State University in All Level Instrumental Music Education, and this past May he received his Masters Degree in Education Administration and Leadership from Lamar University.
The goals Mr. Elam has for the program here at HMS includes becoming a competitive middle school across Houston and the state. His mindset is built around the idea of using a suburban style approach to the band program, while providing the resources and opportunities that aren't readily available to students of a lower socioeconomic status. As the HMS Band is growing rapidly, he is working to strengthen the fine arts on his campus and his district.
During his free time, Mr. Elam likes to binge watch tv shows and movies, go to the gym, and go dancing. He listens to all styles of music and loves learning about new styles and artists on the rise. Since college, he has also been a freelance professional musician playing in big bands, commercial gigs, and cover band groups as well. Mr. Elam lives with his best friend of 9 years, and has no pets for now. He tries to get out and golf when he can, and is a big foodie. While being a native Houstonian, he enjoys all Houston sports teams and is very prideful of his city!
