A fire at a Planned Parenthood facility in Washington state Friday has been determined to have been arson, fire officials in Pullman said.

The fire discovered at around 3:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET) caused “extensive fire, smoke and heat damage to the front portion of the building," the Pullman Fire Department said in a statement. The facility has been open since September 2012, the fire department said.

Planned Parenthood has come under criticism in recent weeks after a spate of videos were released by an anti-abortion group that claim the organization profits from the sale of tissue from aborted fetuses.

Planned Parenthood denies the claims, and says the videos are heavily edited and deceptive.

"This is an appalling act of violence towards Planned Parenthood, but unfortunately a predictable ripple effect from the recent false and incendiary attacks that fuel violence from extremists," Karl Eastlund, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho, said in a statement Friday.

The fire was so extensive that the building was ruled unsafe by a building inspector, the fire department said. Planned Parenthood said it will establish an alternate site to serve its patients, and said it will rebuild.

There have been calls by some Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood after the videos were released. Last month, the U.S. Senate voted down a bill that would have taken away more than $500 million from the organization.

Pullman fire investigator Rich Dragoo requested help from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the bureau sent three agents from Spokane Friday, the fire department said.

Pullman is a city of about 31,000 in the southeastern part of the state, about 75 miles south of Spokane.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Investigators have recovered video showing a flammable object being thrown through the window of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Washington state before a fire broke out Friday.

Pullman police spokesman Cmdr. Chris Tennant says the video shows the inside of the building as the object was thrown through the window. He declined to describe the object.

No one was injured in Friday’s fire, which was determined to be arson. It started around 3:30 a.m. in the college town of Pullman near the Idaho border.

The Spokesman Review says (http://is.gd/hSgbLM ) a federal terrorism task force is investigating along with Pullman police and fire investigators.

Planned Parenthood spokeswoman Tanya Riordan said the damage will keep the center closed longer than anticipated. The organization hopes to have a temporary location identified soon.

Police said Thursday a $10,000 reward is being offered by the Arson Alarm Foundation and NW Insurance Council for information in the case.

The burning of a Planned Parenthood in Washington has been ruled an arson. It is just the latest in a decades-long string of attacks on abortion clinics.

Pullman police commander’s son sought in Latah County homicide investigation

July 20, 2017 Updated Fri., July 21, 2017 at 7:30 a.m.

The Pullman Police Department has confirmed that one of the suspects accused of killing a recent Pullman High School graduate on Monday near Troy, Idaho, is the son of a Pullman police commander.

As part of the investigation, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it is attempting to locate Matthew McKetta and Keagan Tennant, who was described by the Pulllman Police Department as Cmdr. Chris Tennant’s adopted son.

“Commander Tennant has not been in regular contact with Keagan but is actively assisting investigators attempting to locate Keagan so he can be taken into custody,” the department wrote in a news release posted to Twitter.

Latah County Sheriff Richie Skiles told the Moscow-Pullman Daily News that the body of an adult male was found in a rural area Wednesday and that it was determined he had died from a gunshot wound. The name of the victim has not been released, according to the Latah County Sheriff’s Department.

Friends and family confirmed that Tim Reeves, a recently graduated senior at Pullman High School, was the victim in Monday’s homicide.

About a hundred friends and family met on an open hillside at Conservation Park on the outskirts of Pullman on Thursday evening to memorialize Reeves and come to terms with his death. They inscribed prayers and messages to Reeves onto balloons before launching them into the air.

One of the victim’s brothers, Tyler Knight, 19, said the important thing was to stand together. “I just want to see everyone come together as a community,” he said before the balloons were launched.

“I told (Reeves) to hold his family,” said Sandi Davis, an extended family member, while inscribing a long note on a baloon. “They’re going to need to feel him for the rest of time. I gave him a list of people to say Hi to.”

Tennant and McKetta are believed to be armed and dangerous, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. They may be driving a stolen white 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with Idaho license plate number IBX8758.

Deputies ask anyone with information related to the two individuals to contact the sheriff’s office at (208) 882-2216. They also ask the public not to approach the pair and if they are seen to call 911.

TENNANT SENTENCING PKG.jpg

MOSCOW, ID — "He was always that hug when your world felt like it was falling apart. His hugs would somehow magically squeeze the broken and the doubt away."

That is just one of the many statement read at Keagan Tennant’s sentencing Thursday morning, for killing his friend during a camping trip last summer. Keagan Tennant will now be behind bars for up to 25 years.

Keagan Tennant walked into the courtroom in Latah County for the last time to be sentenced for killing Tim Reeves in July 2017, along with three other felonies. He was sentenced to a maximum of 25 years in prison, and a five year fixed term, meaning he could be released after half a decade. His sentencing also is a blended sentence, meaning he'll be in a juvenile correction facility until he turns 21.

"It's where he's going to get the best program and the most appropriate treatment for who he is today," said Debra McCormick, Tennant’s defense attorney, during the proceeding.

But Tim Reeves' family pushed for a far longer sentence for the teen who they say tore apart the light of their family. Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson read a statement written by Reeves' father's partner.

"When all else seemed to fail, here comes Bubba, our little ray of sunshine, to put the positive back into our souls, no matter the situation at hand, he would always restore our love," she wrote.

Tim Reeves' mother, crying in the background, while Keagan Tennant also tried to hold back tears. Thompson himself struggled to read a statement from Reeves' ten-year-old brother.

"One time, he didn't come back. And then cops arrived, and they told mom, then mom told me. And everything fell apart, like in Jenga. My family will never be the same," he wrote.

And for the first time since the trigger was pulled on July 17, 2017, Keagan Tennant gave a statement to the court. He chose not to read it himself.

"I would like to say I'm sorry for everything I've done. To most my friend, and I'll miss him. I know there's nothing I can do to make up for Tim's death, but I will always try to," wrote Tennant.

Keagan Tennant will likely be placed in the juvenile correction facility in Lewiston until his 21st birthday. His time served in Latah County since his arrest will go towards his sentence.

As for codefendant Matthew Mcketta, Bill Thompson says it's important to keep in mind that Mcketta wasn't present when Tim Reeves was killed. He entered an Alford plea in January for charges of principal to destroy, alter, or conceal evidence, and principal to grand theft. An Alford plea isn’t a guilty plea. It means the defendant does not plead guilty, but does admit there is enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to prosecute.

Matthew Mcketta will be sentenced on April 23, 2018, and unlike Tennant, he will not be eligible for a blended sentence because he is 18 years old.
