Amy Compton-Phillips, M.D., (born December 3, 1963) is the President of Clinical Care[1] for Providence St. Joseph Health. She is known for leading Providence St. Joseph's treatment of the first COVID-19 patient in the United States.[2]
Compton-Phillips is responsible for clinical care outcomes[3] delivered by the non-profit health system that spans seven states and consists of 51 hospitals, over 800 clinics, and more than 115,000 caregivers. Compton-Phillips holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Compton-Phillips is also a board-certified internist. Compton-Phillips currently chairs the High Value Healthcare Collaborative and serves on the boards of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, Wellcare, Lumedic, the Institute of Systems Biology, and Multiscale Health Networks.
Prior to the pandemic, Compton-Phillips was an active speaker about data use in healthcare[4] and regular contributor to New England Journal of Medicine's Catalyst.[5] She was featured in PBS Frontline's documentary, Coronavirus Pandemic,[6] for leading Providence St. Joseph Health's treatment of the first COVID-19 patient. Compton-Phillips has since been recognized for speaking often about Providence St. Joseph's digital solutions to treat COVID-19.[7] She was recently named one of 2020's top 30 healthcare IT influencers in CDW's HealthTech magazine,[8] featured by Fierce Healthcare as one of their Women of Influence in 2020,[9] and named one of Modern Healthcare's Top 25 Women Leaders in 2021.[10] Compton-Phillips is also a CNN Medical Analyst[11] and regularly shares medical information about COVID-19 with the public[12]

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and Dr. Amy Compton-Phillips, who oversees Providence hospitals in seven states, discuss steps necessary to contain the coronavirus from spreading.
Uncertainty about work resuming at factories in China is setting in, with provinces or cities posting different dates for an extended shutdown as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread.
Authorities had initially said operations could pick up again on Monday, but the already-extended delay in reopening could be dragged out even further for many factories â including Appleâs largest manufacturer Foxconn.
Even if businesses were up and running again, their workers would still have to fulfill quarantine requirements of around two weeks.
With the further delay, analysts warned of a big hit not just to the Chinese economy, but globally.
Shutdowns further extended
Last week, more than 20 provinces and other regions told businesses to not resume work before Feb. 10 at the earliest. In 2019, those parts of China accounted for more than 80% of national GDP, and 90% of exports, according to CNBC calculations of data accessed through Wind Information.
Some provinces and districts have now told companies to not return to work until March 1, according to officials.
While it appears that business activities in some provinces will partially resume Monday, workers returning from other provinces are still subject to quarantine and some sectors, such as construction, will need to delay resumption of work, Morgan Stanley wrote in a report on Monday morning.
âItâs uncertain whether factories could resume production this week amid local quarantine efforts and traffic controls. Indeed, many authorities and enterprises at local levels are targeting Feb. 17th or later to restart business, and the resumption is likely to be a phased approach,â the investment bank wrote.
But, it said, âthere are still uncertainties as to how quickly the coronavirus situation will be brought under control and when production and goods transportation services will be ramped up to normal levels.
âThat ... is a major blast to the global value chain, not only for China, but the world. Thatâs already, basically a month and a half without factories working,â said Alicia Garcia Herrero, chief economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis.
âSo indeed, itâs a big blow to the Chinese economy, and the world,â she told CNBC on Monday.
