International Visitors Celebrate Oracy at Horsenden

On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome a group of professors from prestigious universities in Japan to Horsenden. They visited to see our children’s oracy skills in action as part of their research into the impact of oracy in education.

The visitors observed lessons and spoke with pupils and staff about how oracy supports learning across the curriculum. After their visit, they travelled to Cambridge University to discuss their observations with the team who developed the Oracy Framework.

One professor shared:
“This is a truly special place where children are growing into confident and articulate learners.”

We are incredibly proud that the work of our staff and pupils continues to be recognised internationally.

3D Class Sharing Assembly

3D recently took us on an amazing adventure all about light as part of our science curriculum. With confident and clear explanations, the children guided us through their learning about sunlight, UV rays and how light helps us see the world around us. They shared fascinating facts and demonstrated great enthusiasm as they explored this important scientific topic.

We particularly enjoyed their beautiful singing, which had the whole audience smiling. Every child worked incredibly hard to learn their lines and practise the songs, and we are so proud of the effort and teamwork they showed throughout.

Well done, 3D, for such a bright and informative assembly!

School Council & House Captains visit Harrow School

Last Friday our School Council members and House Captains were lucky enough to visit the historic Harrow School. During the visit, the children learned all about the origins of the school and its long and fascinating history.

We were given a tour of the impressive school grounds and discovered more about the different lessons and learning experiences that pupils at Harrow take part in. The children also enjoyed hearing about some of the famous individuals who once attended the school and some of the inventions founded by them; the police and post box to name a couple.

One of the most exciting moments of the trip was visiting where a scene from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was filmed. The children were thrilled to even sit in the very seat where Harry Potter sat during filming! It was an incredible experience that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. 

'My favourite part of the trip was hearing a pupil play the organ in the grand speech room, it was amazing!' 

'I can't believe that the children have lessons on Saturdays!' 

World Book Day 2026

This week we celebrated World Book Day with a range of activities to promote a love of reading across the school. Children came dressed as their favourite book characters and it was wonderful to see so many creative costumes.

The day began with our Reading Café, where parents and carers joined their children in the Main Hall to enjoy reading together before school. During this time, our Book Swap Stall was also open, giving children the chance to exchange a book they had brought in for a different one to take home.

Our Reading Champions had the important job of judging the competitions this year. They were blown away by the creativity and effort that went into the entries, especially the Book Character Potato Competition! The standard was incredibly high and it was very difficult for them to choose the winners.

Children who received Golden Tickets were also invited to a special story session with the Reading Champions during the day, where they enjoyed listening to a story together as part of the celebrations.
