Message from the Headteacher
Today we have celebrated National Teaching Assistant’s Day, and I’d like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our incredible team of teaching assistants. Their dedication, patience and care make a huge difference to the lives of the children at Horsenden every single day. Whether they are leading small group interventions, supporting in class, or offering quiet reassurance when it’s needed most, they are an essential part of our school family – and we are so grateful for everything they do. You are all superstars!
We were also pleased to welcome our Link Officer to visit our Early Years team this week. I’m delighted to share that she had high praise for the stimulating and engaging environment our staff have created for our youngest learners. She noted how well the children have settled and the good progress they are already making. This is a testament to the skill, care and teamwork of our EYFS staff – a well-deserved recognition!
Finally, this afternoon we welcomed Leah Chowdhry, a truly inspirational speaker, to deliver two special assemblies. Leah shared her personal story of perseverance and determination, encouraging the children to believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams. Her message linked beautifully with our school value for this half term – hardworking – and echoed the themes we’ve been exploring in my Headteacher assemblies about believing in ourselves and having a growth mindset.

English Channel Swimmer - Leah Chowdhry
Horsenden welcomed Leah Chowdhry, an inspirational role model who shared her story of perseverance and determination with our children. In 2018, Leah made history as the first British Asian woman to swim across the English Channel, completing the challenge in an incredible 14 hours and 44 minutes. Along the way she overcame seasickness, jellyfish stings and swimming through pitch darkness, raising over £250,000 for charity in the process.
Leah has gone on to achieve remarkable success as a business leader, author of Making a Splash! and recipient of the prestigious British Citizenship Medal, among many other awards.
Her message of resilience, self-belief and never giving up couldn’t have come at a better time, as our assemblies have focused on the importance of persistence. We hope Leah’s journey will inspire our children to keep striving, even when things feel tough and to understand that with determination, they too can achieve incredible things.

The school photographers will be coming in to school this Monday 29th September.
Each child will have an individual photograph taken. Class photos will be taken next year.
Please ensure your child comes to school in their best uniform. Please do not send your child to school in their PE kit.
On the day your child will bring home a QR code which will enable you to register on the photographer's website ready to place your order when the photographs are available
Like last time the photographers will set a cut off date for orders to be placed, and orders will be sent to the school to distribute to parents/carers via your children.
'Applying to High School' Meeting - Tue 30 Sept
'Applying to High School' Meeting - Tue 30 Sept
There will be a meeting for parents/carers of Year 6 children about 'applying for high school' on Tuesday 30th September at 9am, and repeated at 5pm. Please come along to this very important meeting in the main hall. We will provide information from the Ealing council about how to apply and answer any questions you have.
A leaflet with key dates for applying to high school for a September 2025 place will be handed to parents/carers at the meeting. If you are unable to attend, we will send a leaflet home with your child on the next day.
High School Open Evenings: As mentioned in our previous newsletter article, for a list of borough high school open evenings please check page 2 of the 'High School Prospectus 2025', available on our website - click here. Information on how to apply is also available in the document and our webpage.
The deadline for applying for high school is 31st October 2025.

Restorative Justice Coffee Morning
All parents and carers are welcome to hear Lynne Russell from Restorative Justice 4 Schools. Lynne will share how restorative approaches help children resolve conflict fairly, build empathy, and strengthen relationships — skills we are beginning to embed in school and which can also support family life.

Coffee Morning with Araminta
To share a little more about what Schools Counselling Partnership does, and take any questions you may have, Araminta will be holding a parent/carer coffee morning. This will also be a space for parents to connect with one another.
