Today, we’ve had a wonderful opportunity to learn about what genes do while also raising money for the very important Jeans for Genes Day. It was fantastic to see everyone in their jeans—and thank you to all our families for your generous donations in support of this cause.

This morning, the children also took part in a key democratic process by casting their votes for this year’s House Captains. We are incredibly proud of all our Year 6 pupils who stood up and delivered speeches in front of their houses—such a brave and admirable thing to do. You can read more in the article below. The results will be revealed next week!

This week in assembly, we’ve also been focusing on the first of our HORSE code values – Hardworking. In assemblies and classrooms, we’ve been sharing the newly developed success criteria to help children understand what being hardworking really looks like in daily school life.

We also read The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires—a story which beautifully illustrates the importance of resilience, perseverance, and hard work. The main character experiences frustration and setbacks but continues to try, learning along the way until she creates something truly magnificent. A perfect reminder that effort and determination are key to success.

Today was an exciting day at school as the House Captain elections took place! Our Year 6 candidates worked very hard to prepare and deliver speeches to their houses, sharing their ideas and explaining why they would make great leaders.

After the speeches, each child had the opportunity to vote. The halls were transformed into polling stations, and children used ballot papers to cast their votes privately before posting them into secure ballot boxes – just like in real elections!

It was a fantastic experience that gave everyone a chance to practice a valuable life skill while also having lots of fun. It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic and responsible the children were about taking part.

The votes will now be carefully counted, and the new House Captains will be announced on Monday 22nd September. Well done to all the Year 6s for their effort, courage and brilliant speeches – what a success!
