Horsenden Primary School
Horsenden Primary School
Message from the Headteacher
This week has provided many opportunities to reflect on the confidence, resilience and determination shown by pupils across the school. Our Year 6 children approached SATs week with maturity and positivity, showing great focus and perseverance throughout. They should feel incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves during the week.
A huge thank you must also go to the many staff who supported the children each day. These moments are always a team effort, with adults across the school working together to ensure children feel prepared, encouraged and cared for. SATs also begin our wider end-of-year assessment period, with the Year 2 SATs, Year 4 Multiplication Check and Year 1 Phonics Screening Check taking place soon.
Meanwhile, our swimmers continue to represent Horsenden brilliantly in competitions across London and beyond, helping to build a growing reputation for the school within the swimming community.
We now look forward to our final week before half term and a well-earned break before the last half term of the year begins.
See the bottom of the 'Updates' page for more details about upcoming diary events!
RD Class Sharing Assembly
This morning, RD shared their learning with families and staff in their very first class sharing assembly. The children impressed everyone with their storytelling, singing and confident speaking as they shared some of the many things they have been learning about this year, including space, people who help us and rainforests.
It was particularly lovely to hear the ambitious vocabulary they have developed, confidently explaining different layers of the rainforest such as the canopy and emergent layer.
Most importantly, the assembly showed just how much the children have grown in confidence since starting Reception. They spoke so enthusiastically in front of a large audience and should feel incredibly proud of themselves.
EYFS Drama Workshop
Today, Nursery and Reception children were delighted to take part in free Drama4ALL workshops, sponsored by Perform, the UK’s leading provider of drama, dance and singing classes for children aged 4–12.
The children were thrilled when an actor arrived in character as Peter Pan, leading them on a magical and imaginative adventure to Neverland. Captain Hook had hidden the treasure aboard the Jolly Roger, and the children worked together to help Peter Pan rescue it before returning safely to school.
Through a range of engaging drama activities combining movement, storytelling and role play, the children developed important early learning skills including speaking and listening, attention and focus, expressive movement, teamwork, imagination and confidence.
Nursery and Reception children fully immersed themselves in the adventure, using their imaginations brilliantly as they acted as pirates, explored magical lands and helped solve problems along the way. The workshop encouraged the children to communicate confidently, work collaboratively and express themselves creatively through drama and movement.
Championship Swimming Gala
Five of our amazing swimmers competed in the London Schools Swimming Qualifiers alongside 27 other schools from across London. Reaching a level where they could compete in such a prestigious event is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication, commitment and hard work they have shown throughout their training to get this far.
We are currently waiting for the results and hope that Horsenden will be represented by one of our swimmers in the final taking place in June.
Congratulations to to Jiya, Mihail, Heer, Hrishita and Nelida on their excellent performance and for representing the school so brilliantly.
