RS delivered their very first class sharing assembly this morning and made us all incredibly proud. The children shared some of the many things they have been learning about this year, including space, rainforests, resilience and retelling stories.

They confidently retold the story of , explaining how Evil Pea escaped from the freezer and caused chaos before finally being captured. What stood out most was the clarity of the children’s speaking and the confidence they showed in front of such a large audience. They have had a fantastic start to their journey at Horsenden.

Year 3 enjoyed an exciting trip to Fulham Palace, where they learned about Roman life and the history of the site. They discovered that before it became a royal residence, it was once a working farm with horses and cattle, playing an important role in everyday life.

The children explored the grounds and took part in activities that helped them imagine what life would have been like in the past. They thought carefully about how people lived and worked there many years ago.

It was a fantastic opportunity to bring their history learning to life and understand how the site has changed over time. The children showed great enthusiasm throughout the visit.

Today, Year 1 and Year 2 were delighted to take part in free Drama4ALL workshops, sponsored by Perform, the UK’s leading provider of drama, dance and singing classes for children aged 4–12. 

The children were thrilled when an actor arrived in character as Peter Pan, guiding them through a magical and imaginative drama adventure. Captain Hook had stolen the treasure, and only the children could help rescue it from the Jolly Roger and return safely to class! 

Through a range of engaging drama activities combining movement, storytelling and role play, the children developed important skills including speaking and listening, focus, self-control, characterisation, expressive movement, teamwork and confidence. 

In Year 1, the children travelled to Neverland in disguise to help Peter Pan rescue the treasure from Captain Hook. Year 2 pupils took on leadership roles in the mission, further developing their acting, teamwork and storytelling skills as they worked together to recover the treasure from the Jolly Roger. 

This week, Nursery and Reception had a very exciting visit from our local police officers! The children enjoyed learning all about the important role the police play in helping and protecting our community.

The officers brought along some of their equipment and uniform for the children to see and explore, which created lots of excitement and curiosity. The children loved trying on some of the items, asking questions, and finding out how the police help people every day.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about people who help us, while building confidence and understanding within the wider community. A big thank you to the police officers for taking the time to visit and make the experience so memorable for our children!

Today, some of our classes took part in a special interactive virtual assembly marking the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. Delivered by Picture News, the session encouraged children to reflect on the natural world, environmental responsibility and the influence one individual can have over a lifetime of work and advocacy.

Pupils listened thoughtfully, discussed important global issues and shared their own ideas confidently during the interactive elements of the assembly. It was particularly encouraging to see children making links between the themes explored and their own learning about sustainability, habitats and caring for the world around them.

Opportunities such as these help children to develop not only knowledge and awareness, but also curiosity, empathy and the confidence to express their views respectfully — all important aspects of the wider personal development work that runs through school life at Horsenden.
