This week, our Year 3–5 children took to the stage for our annual Spring Medley, showcasing a wonderful range of musical and spoken performances.

The audience was treated to a vibrant programme, with standout pieces including Spring Fever and a joyful rendition of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds (Everything’s Gonna Be Alright), which truly lifted the room. It was fantastic to see every child take part, particularly as they demonstrated their learning on the glockenspiel—an instrument all pupils have been developing their skills on in class.

We were also delighted to enjoy individual performances from pupils who take part in peripatetic lessons with Piano Fun Club, alongside an uplifting performance from Miss Coulton and the school choir.

The confidence, enthusiasm and talent on display made this a truly special event. Well done to all of the children involved.

This week, we held our end-of-term Vision Awards assemblies, celebrating the children who have embodied our HORSE Code value of Optimistic.

Throughout the Spring term, we have explored what it means to be optimistic—showing resilience, approaching challenges positively, and believing in our ability to improve. One child from each class was chosen for consistently demonstrating this in their daily school life.

These pupils are fantastic role models, showing determination, encouraging others, and maintaining a positive attitude even when things feel difficult.

Our Eco Warriors have recently taken part in a local litter pick around the streets surrounding Horsenden Primary School, and we are incredibly proud of the effort and the  commitment they showed.

The children worked extremely hard to improve their local area for both people and wildlife. During their litter pick, they carefully observed the types of waste found and were particularly concerned by the large number of cigarette ends, bottles, and rubber bands discarded on pavements—especially those left behind following post deliveries. They were also troubled to find numerous dog waste bags left near trees. However, after further investigation, the children recognised that there are very few local bins available for proper disposal, highlighting an important issue within our community. Perhaps most concerning to the children was the level of illegal dumping they encountered. They were shocked by the potential dangers this poses to both people and animals, and this has inspired them to take further action.

As a result, in Summer 1 the Eco Warriors will be writing to their local MP, including photographic evidence, to raise awareness and push for positive change.

Thanks to the determination of our Eco Warriors, along with the support of some keen parent volunteers, the children successfully met their National pledge in the ‘Keep Britain Tidy, Great Big School Clean 2026’ and made a real difference in their community.

This week, our Year 2 children successfully completed their Design and Technology project, creating their very own sewn puppets.

Throughout the project, the children explored different types of puppets and learned about well-known characters such as Sooty and Sweep and the Muppets. They developed their understanding of how puppets are brought to life and used this inspiration to design their own characters based on stories from popular books and films.

The children showed great enthusiasm and perseverance as they learned key sewing skills, including how to thread a needle and use a running stitch. After practising on Binca fabric, they carefully cut, joined, and stitched their materials together to create their puppet shapes before decorating them with creativity and flair.

We were incredibly impressed with the focus, resilience, and pride the children demonstrated throughout the project. Their finished puppets were imaginative, colourful, and truly brought their story characters to life.

A huge thank you to our wonderful (and very patient) parent volunteers who gave their time to support the children with their sewing. Your helped make a real difference and ensured the success of this hands-on learning experience.
