Message from the Headteacher
It has been an incredibly busy and exciting week at Horsenden. Our pupils have represented the school brilliantly at football fixtures, our School Counsellors and House Captains enjoyed a special visit and tour of Harrow School, and we were delighted to welcome some fascinating (and slightly slithery!) visitors from Hounslow Urban Farm.
We ended the week on a high with Year 2’s wonderful project exhibition on habitats. The children proudly showed their creative work and talked about what they are learning — a real celebration of curiosity and knowledge.
Thank you to all the staff and parents who give their time so generously to make these additional experiences possible. These opportunities enrich our curriculum and help bring learning to life.
Next week promises even more excitement, most notably World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. Please do read the article below for full details of the competitions and reading activities taking place — there are plenty of ways for everyone to get involved.

Y1 & Y2 visit from Hounslow Urban Farm Tropical Zoo
Year 1 and Year 2 had a fantastic time at the Hounslow Urban Farm Roadshow this week! The children enjoyed an inspiring and hands-on animal encounter, learning fascinating facts about a variety of exotic creatures and how they are specially adapted to their habitats around the world.
An experienced ranger led the session, teaching the children about where the animals live, what they eat and how they are cared for. It was wonderful to see the children confidently sharing their own impressive knowledge with the animal experts.
The highlight of the visit was the opportunity to get up close and handle a range of animals safely and under careful supervision. The creatures included stick insects, lizards, a tarantula, frogs, giant African snails, a chinchilla and even a royal python! The children were amazing — they handled the animals with great care and confidence. Miss Borsig even overcame her fear of snakes by bravely stroking a royal python! However, the children were even braver and enjoyed an even closer encounter with the stunning snake!
We hope this memorable experience continues to inspire a love of the natural world and helps develop the children’s understanding of conservation and the importance of caring for the wonderful creatures who share our planet.
Get Ready for World Book Day - Thursday 5th March!
World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March 2026! We are looking forward to celebrating with a range of whole-school activities. On this day, please come in wearing a costume of a character of your choice!
Reading Café & Book Swap: 8:20–8:50am in the Main Hall.
Parents and carers are warmly invited to join us to read with their child before school. Our Book Swap Stall will be open during this time. Please send in one unwanted book by Tuesday 3rd March if your child would like to take part in swapping a book. They will receive a token to use at the Book Swap Stall.
Competitions
Storytelling Competition: Record a short (maximum two minutes) video of your child retelling or reading a story using props, costumes and character voices. Upload to the World Book Day Google Classroom by Wednesday 4th March.
Book Character Potato Competition: Create a favourite book character from a potato. Bring entries into school on Thursday 5th March.
Costume Competition: Children are invited to come dressed as a book character. There will be a winner from EYFS/KS1 and one from KS2.

Before half term we took part in a wonderful range of activities to mark Children’s Mental Health Week—a week dedicated to supporting emotional wellbeing, building confidence, and strengthening our sense of community. Across the school, children engaged in circle times and special assemblies exploring the theme of belonging: where we feel we belong, who helps us feel connected, and what makes our school community such a supportive place.
We also enjoyed a vibrant Dress to Express Day, where children came dressed in outfits that represented themselves, their identities, and the communities they belong to. The creativity and confidence on display were truly inspiring. Year 1 and Year 2 pupils took part in hands-on workshops focused on healthy ways to manage emotions, including safe and appropriate ways to release anger.
We are delighted to share that, thanks to your generosity, our families have raised £432, which will go directly towards new playground equipment for our children to enjoy. Thank you for your ongoing support and your commitment to our Horsenden School community. It truly makes a difference.

High School National Offer Day - Mon 2 March
For parents of children in Year 6, please be reminded that High School offer day is Monday 2nd March 2026.
If you applied on-time on the eAdmissions portal you will receive an email with your offer between 5pm and 10pm that evening (please check your spam/junk folder). Paper applicants will get a letter by first-class post.
You must accept or decline your offer by Monday 16 March 2026 via the eAdmissions portal (for online applications) or by returning the reply slip (for paper applications). If you don’t respond, the offer may be withdrawn.
Your child will automatically be added to the waiting list for any higher preference schools so we encourage you accept the school given or you may be left without a school while you are waiting for a higher preference school.
To change preferences, please email mainroundadmissions@ealing.gov.uk.
