10.
“Sour Patch Kids”
It’s a song about being young.
This song is number ten because it’s different from the other songs on my list but it’s still an ideal song to embrace nostalgia.
9.
“Been Away”
It’s a song about making money.
People should listen to this song because it teaches people not to let others distract them or discourage them from making the money we all need. It’s at nine because while it’s important to make money, the other songs on my list are more about emotional value, which is higher than currency.
8.
“Paper Planes” by M.I.A.
The song’s literal contents about doing dumb thing such as stealing.
It’s a song for when you want to have good vibes and have fun. This is at number 8 because stealing is wrong, but the song still slaps.
7.
“PRIDE.” by Kendrick Lamar
It’s a slow chill song ideal for parties.
People should listen to this because it touches on the imperfections of the world that people can relate to.
It’s at number 7 on my list because this is more serious than previous entries. I don’t replay this song often but I’m glad I’ve heard it.
6.
“Young Dumb & Broke”
It’s a song about being a kid in high school.
People should listen to this song right before they graduate to reflect on high school and planning to move on to better things.
It’s at number six on my list because its type of importance has more universal appeal to high school students than entries not ranked as high.
5.
“EARFQUAKE” by Tyler the Creator
This is a song about wanting or needing someone in your life.
This song is important because most people can relate to needing someone.
This is better than the previous six songs because it’s unique to everything else that was being released at that time.
4.
“Sure Thing” by Miguel
It's a love song.
People should listen to this particular love song because it speaks to today’s kids effectively. My generation of kids can feel these lyrics because he takes a traditional format of comparing two things that compliment each other using metaphors that appeal to teenagers today.
It’s at number four on my list because love and the concept of sharing your life with someone is important, but this song is still a little corny.
3.
“The Way Life Goes” by Lil Uzi Vert
It’s a song about the steady progression of life.
People should listen to this because I interpret this song to encourage people to look forward to life and not get hung up on the obstacles we all have to work through.
It’s at number three on my list because it’s important for people to not get hung up on the obstacles in their life.
2.
“Love Yourz” by J. Cole
It's a song about coming up in life and appreciating the life you do have.
Everyone should listen to this because life is important, and we should value it. I originally had this as number four on my list, but I moved it to number two because I feel like modern kids forget how valuable life really is. In an increasingly virtual world people feel their lives are safer behind a screen, but that’s not real.
1.
“Love Lost” by Mac Miller
It’s an upbeat R&B song with a happy vibe.
This song is number one because it’s by Mac Miller. He’s an important artist because the emotional impact of his music has spoken to and helped many people with mental health. This particular song speaks to keeping positive vibes during tragic parts of life.
This is my number one choice because his music brings happiness to people. There’s something about his voice that brings positivity in dark times.
