he / she / they
Hi, I’m Maya, a Couples and Family Therapy and Art Therapy intern at Antioch University, and I’m so glad you’re here!
Every person is a beautifully complicated mix of their history, generational lineage, body, culture, the hardships they’ve survived, the people and passions that keep them going, and so much more. You deserve a space where all of that is welcome, which is what drew me to art therapy; creativity has room for all of who you are.
From that foundation, I adapt every model I use through an art therapy lens, drawing on strategic and structural family therapy, attachment-based family therapy, Internal Family Systems, narrative therapy, experiential therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, mindfulness-based practices, and specialized support for trauma and dissociation. Rather than fitting you into a single model, we’ll build a treatment plan together that honors your goals and grows with you.
That same flexibility carries into the decolonial framework I strive to work from, which begins with curiosity. You’re the expert on your own life, so rather than assuming what “healthy” or “normal” looks like for you, I want to learn what healing means to you and your community. I also prioritize psychoeducation, so you understand the “why” behind our work and can carry your healing forward on your own terms. Together, we can explore how the world around you has shaped your story and how you might rewrite it.
My identities as a queer, genderfluid, plural, and neurodivergent person with disabilities inform my therapeutic approach. I know firsthand how it feels to move through a world that wasn’t built with you in mind, and if you share some of these experiences, I hope you’ll find you don’t have to explain everything here.
Outside the therapy room, I have far too many hobbies! I paint, throw ceramics, sew, do beadwork, and work as a professional face painter. You’ll also find me practicing yoga, tai chi, and qigong, writing songs, watching queer films, reading, cooking, playing board games, or out on a hike.
