Coffee and Justice

An Introduction

In this unit on coffee and justice, we will look at how our local coffee choices have a global impact.

We will learn about where coffee comes from, how it is produced, and what it means for the people and communities who produce it.

First, we will look briefly at the history of coffee, the injustices that are present, and what effect those injustices have on coffee producers.

Then, using A Cafecito Story by Julia Alvarez and film After the Harvest, we’ll hear stories of how people have responded to these challenges, and worked towards justice- a system of coffee connection where everyone involved can thrive.

Throughout all of this, we will consider our role as coffee consumers and global citizens, and what we can do to pursue justice locally!
