UK Personal Statement
RELEVANCE, RECENT, AND REFLECTIVE- are the three "Rs" that must show up when writing your UK Personal statement.
Relevance- this means you should show in your writing how your chosen course, reading, activities or expereinces connect to each other. Universities do not want to know about random activities or work that don't support why you want to attend their school or your chosen course.
Recent- don't go back to your childhood. Keep your writing about the last 2-3 years of high school.
Reflective- realy give some thouight to how you have been strategic in developing your passion and interests. Show in your writing how you have gownn or advanced your knowledge as it relates to the field of study.
Here is a format for what to write in each paragraph:
A suggested structure is:
Paragraph 1
· Name and country
· Academic background and course title you want to pursue
· What are your reasons for studying this topic?
Paragraph 2
· Discuss your achievements
· Discuss your work/life relevant experiences to the course of study
Paragraph 3
· Your skills and qualities as it relate to your career aspirations
Paragraph 4
· Your motivations
· Your extra-curricular
Paragraph 5
· Your conclusion-could be a quote by an author, summary of what you talked about or a saying
