A few years ago preschool started to rent an allotment on the site near St Peter’s Church. We have had a lot of fun, education and produce thanks to this activity. We try to take the children to the allotment between April and July and then again in September.

Some of the activities the children take part in include:

· plant seedlings they have started off in preschool

· growing onions sets

· growing and cutting flowers (sweet peas are a favourite)

· watering

· digging (and finding worms etc)

· picking soft fruit, blackberries, strawberries

· harvesting carrots

· making scarecrows

The allotment is also part of ‘Britain in Bloom’ when judges come round Coggeshall and look at how horticulture is promoted and practised in Coggeshall. We are also part of ‘Coggeshall Open Gardens’.

The children have won a few prizes from the Coggeshall Allotment Society, last year for our carrots and blackberries!
