Attendance may help with admission to the program. You'll see the location of the classrooms, learn about the course expectations and requirements, and meet teachers and staff!

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program
Hononegah / Rock Valley College Pathway
(Year-long program)
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics assess injuries and illnesses, provide emergency medical care, and may transport patients to medical facilities. By completing an EMT course, individuals can learn valuable skills in assessing patients, providing basic life support, and administering critical care in emergency situations.
FRE-223 Emergency Medical Technician/Basic Course Description: Emergency Medical Technician covers emergency, care, handling, and extrication of the, critically ill and injured. Topics covered, include control of hemorrhage, treatment of, shock, fractures, soft tissue injuries, burn, victims, poisoning, emergency childbirth, packing, and transportation of the sick and injured.

Earns 3 Hononegah credits (3 class periods on your schedule)
Class time/Location: Monday-Thursday from 7:30-9:30 am -RVC Main Campus.
Students must have their own transportation.
Students are responsible for the cost of instruction, textbook, and National EMT exam.
Cost = Approximately $750 (and $50 dual credit fee)
Attendance policy: No more than 8 hrs. of class can be missed / 80% is Passing for RVC
Other requirements: stethoscope ($15-$200) and an IL IDPH license. Students are required to have the following immunizations: Tdap, MMR, and Chicken Pox.

(Spring semester program)
Nursing Aides provide basic care and help patients with activities of daily living. The Nursing Aide Certificate Program prepares students to enter the healthcare workforce and a pathway to allied health and nursing careers.
NAD 101-Nursing Aide Course Description: Nursing Aide provides an introduction to the principles of patient care. Emphasis is placed on communication and technical skills necessary to function as an important member of the nursing team. Students are given opportunities to develop nursing assistant skills in a variety of laboratory and clinical settings. Attendance for NAD 101 class and clinical are MANDATORY, no exceptions are allowed. (Approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health.)

Cost = Approximately $1,800
Attendance policy: No more than 8 hrs. of class can be missed / 80% is Passing for RVC
Other requirements: Fingerprinting, background check, physical, TB test, Social Security card, Physical, COVID vaccine, Flu shot, BLS-CPR class. (details upon admission).
