How to start a New Merit Badge

All Merit Badge books and guides can be found online. 

Before starting your Merit Badge please make sure to: 

1. Read through your Merit Badge requirements PRIOR to contacting your Scoutmaster. 

2. Once you have read through your Merit Badge requirements, contact your Scoutmaster for a conversation and will assign you to a Merit Badge Counselor (MBC). You can reach your Scoutmaster at scoutmaster@hongkongtroop1.org. 

3. Once you have received Scoutmaster's approval and have been assigned a counselor, you need to contact your Merit Badge Counselor (MBC) for instruction and guidance.  Remember that the Merit Badge is completed on your own initiative. Your counselor is there to guide you through your learning, but your counselor's role is not to teach you the badge requirements. And remember to always cc: another adult in all of your comminications when talking to another adult.

Remember, Eagle required Merit Badges take quite a bit longer to complete.
