2nd Grade with Mrs. Peters

About Me:

I'm Mrs. Peters and I love teaching at Holy Family School! In 2016 I came here as long-term substitute for the 1st and 2nd grade teacher who had gone on maternity leave. The following year, I came back to teach 2nd grade, and this year will be my third full year at HFS teaching 2nd grade. I went to Catholic school myself, so I really love how familiar this school feels.
I grew up in New York and then Connecticut and went to Pace University in New York to get my BA in Communications. After graduating, I went on to marry my husband Ben, who is in the Army, and moved all the way across the country to Washington! Almost two years later, in 2011, we welcomed our first daughter, Ellie Mary. A couple years later, I finally knew what I wanted to do; I wanted to be a teacher. I went to Grand Canyon University and got my Masters degree in Elementary Education. I student taught in 2nd grade at Lacey Elementary and loved every minute of it. Second graders are just the best! Shortly after, in 2015, we welcomed our second daughter, Violet Grace.
In my free time, I enjoy reading and just hanging out with my family.

Homework Overview:

Each student has been given a blue Homework/Take-Home Folder. This folder goes home every night and gets returned back to school each morning. This should be your child's responsibility. I stress this personal responsibility in school and I hope it is also reinforced at home.

Your child will be assigned about 20-30 minutes of homework each day.* Homework that is assigned is directly related to classroom instruction. Typically, Monday through Wednesday your child will be given 2 math pages. On Thursday night they will have a spelling practice page to help them study for Friday's Selling test.

Each week's homework sheet will have 4 spaces for your child to tell me about a book or books that they are reading throughout the week. Students must read for at least 20 minutes per day Monday through Friday. The 4 spaces on the homework sheet must be filled out if it is a normal 5-day week.

*The days on the homework are just a guideline to help the students manage their homework time wisely. The Packet is given on Monday and is due on Friday. In other words, the homework is only checked when it is handed in on Friday.

At Holy Family School we strive to create an atmosphere of learning and service. We have three Student Learning Expectations that help us to achieve that.

We strive to create students that are:

A. Inspired by Christ

B. Diligent Lifelong Learners

C. Respectful citizens of a global community
