What are some skills/competencies (NACE) that you developed during your internship?
During my internship, I became significantly more proficient in my written skills, specifically while
writing emails to owners/CEOs of other companies. I was able to practice these skills in everyday emails
with my supervisor and the other intern, and recognized the great improvement I had when writing
more official emails. I also was able to further develop my research skills. Before meeting with clients on
the phone, I would research their company, what they did and why they wanted to buy our software. I
was able to learn quickly how to find this information and how to navigate client’s websites that were
often full of other information.
How does this experience connect to your future career goals?
This internship helped me see financial services as a sector I may possible want to explore post
graduation. I enjoyed learning about the financial terms and how private equity, venture capital and
hedge funds are similar yet different. I hope to continue learning about financial services companiesafter
graduating Holy Cross.
What advice would you give to other Holy Cross students?
I would recommend another Holy Cross student to take full advantage of these internship
opportunities. Not only is an internship a good way to learn tactical, on-the-job skills but it is also a
great way to meet and network with a ton of new people you wouldn’t have otherwise known. Even in a
remote environment, it’s important to take full advantage of getting to know the people you work with
so that your network grows even larger. It is also important to do your best work on every project you
are assigned, even the small ones, because this demonstrates to your supervisor that you are willing to
work hard.
